Any Key West weddings?

I'm a bride to be from NY and planning on doing a destination wedding in Key West... It was going to be too expensive to do an island so we picked the next best thing....We are getting married on the beach around sunset and then we're going to have a small either cocktail reception or buffet dinner, very casual and laid back. We are only having family and a handful of friends... Not doing a typical wedding reception with a DJ, flower toss etc. in KW bc we're going to have a reception back home in the summer.
So I am heading to KW in 2 weeks... We're looking for places on the beach that are laid back or any "open-air" restaurants... I have appts. at Southernmost Cafe and Kelly's so far... Does anyone have any recommendations or comments of Southernmost or Kelly's?

Thanks ladies!! Laughing

I love Southernmost Cafe!  Last time we were in Key West, we ate lunch there almost every day (the peel and eat shrimp and mango mojitos are incredible).  I can't comment on Kelly's since I've never been, but my SIL loves the place.

A few other Key West restaurants you might look into: Rooftop Cafe, Louie's Upper Deck, Nine One Five.  (Edit: Also Hot Tin Roof at Ocean Key Resort.  Kellys and Nine One Five are not waterfront restaurants.)

I also agree to check out some of the other Keys if you're driving down.  Pierre's and Morada Bay restaurants in Islamorada have one of the most spectacular views I've ever seen.

I am getting married in Key West April 2012. We are using weddings to go key west and getting married on smathers beach (VERY AFFORDABLE).

We are looking into luncheon options for after the ceremony and my top runner is Roof Top Cafe. They are reasonably priced and the restaurant is very beautiful. Clean Crisp look to it. I would definitely check it out if I were you, they have a website. Just google roof top cafe key west.

Hi!  I searched for "Key West" and came across this thread; I know I'm a little late to the convo.  I am from Key West originally though I have lived inNorth Florida for nearly 7 years now.  My parents still live on the island and am getting married there December 2011.  We are early in the planning stages and am getting very discouraged by the cost of catering!  We are expecting around 100 guests and have so far been unable to find a buffet with beer and wine bar (or even heavy hor dourves and coctails) for under $130/head (after tables/chairs/gratuity/tax).  Anyone else having better luck?

Also, I may be too late, but I have heard horror stories about Kelly's Caribbean and weddings!  It is a beautiful venue and the food it great, but there are TONS of hidden fees that they "oops" forget to mention when you sign the contract.  Just be very careful!

I appreciate any feedback on affordable  catering options.  Thanks!

Sorry - I'm now just seeing your message jef04d. Have you tried Great Events Catering? That's who we decided to go with and they have an extended cocktail hour menu along with a ton of other menus. I haven't gotten my final estimate yet but without bar it's about $40-$45/person. We decided on the Inn at Key West and they do the bar, not the caterers.
    Good Luck :)

We are getting married in Key West April 10, 2012. Weddings to go is handling the ceremony which will take place on Smather's beach at sunset. We are then planning to head to the Southernmost Cafe for dinner. We only have a group of 20 people so we will just take everyone to dinner. We are all staying at Southermost on the Beach so this is a convenient option for all of us.

So far I have been pleased with everything with the exception of the cafe wanting to charge $3.50pp to cut the cake. The cutting will cost half as much as the cake itself. We are thinking of just going to the pool to enjoy the cake after dinner.

    Good luck in your planning!
