Freak out moment

Hi ladies,
I'm having a freak out moment and wanted to see if anyone feels like this. I am getting married soon and I have not booked anything yet. I can't find a dress I like and now it has come time to reserve the venue. My FI thought we should just elope and have a few close friends and family go. I said it was important to me to have a wedding and now I'm just over it. I don't want everyone who is getting invited to go but we "have" to invite them. My FI said we could use the 10k for something else for us like a great honeymoon or just save for the future instead of wasting it on people we dont care about. Now I'm confused bc I just want like 8 people with us and it does seem like a waste to have a big wedding with more people, but he says if I don't have a wedding I may regret it later. I just wanted to vent and find out if anyone else feels this way. :

    Why do you "have" to invite anyone? If you dont want people there dont invite them because you feel you "have" to! Have invitations actually been sent?

    If you arent particularly close to a lot of your family members, i dont see any problem with keeping it small, wether you choose to do that here or elope. 8 people isnt a waste, wouldnt spending money on making it elaborate and inviting lots of people be more of a waste? 


    Im kindof feeling the same, Im from england and so the only people from my side will be my immediate family. My FI has a big family but we have said we are only having 30 people there. His side will still totally outweigh mine but obviously his parents are still a little peeved, probably mainly because they feel they will have to explain to family members why they cant come. The reason isnt really the outweighing of sides, its because we have said we dont want to spend anymore than 4k on this one day.

    Invitations haven't gone out, I am thinking of just going some where and getting married just with the small group of people we want. I just want to be happy and marry my FI. Later we can tell everyone we got married and we can have a little gathering, but I'm really rethinking the whole elaborate wedding.

    Its obviously just whatever feels right for the couple. And theres plenty of couples that do exactly what youre thinking of. Im sure your family will understand and respect your choices.

    OP do what you and your FI want and will be happy with. If you truly only want 8 individuals at your wedding then go for it. You can very well have a gathering to announce your wedding to everyone. What's the estimate size of your guest list at the moment?

     FI and I were really considering of just eloping during stressful times and we decided if we did this then it would be a destination wedding somewhere in the state. Since our wedding is on a Friday, we knew not everyone would come hence only the ones we truly want to be there will. However, I pretty much stepped back from the idea because I have always wanted to get married in a church (didn't want regret it later on) and my grandma who is like my 2nd mom wouldn't have been able to travel. Knowing my 90 year old grandma wouldn't be able to travel was the deal breaker for me because the day wouldn't be complete if she wasn't there

    That's what we are doing....when we get BACK from our honeymoon...we'll have CLOSE family over for an intimate "celebration"

    Do you mind me asking where you are going? I was thinking of just going to Vegas, but I am not sure yet.
