Fiance's name change

Hello there! My husband to be has 2 last names and they are hyphenated. He would like to drop one of the names before we get married so I will just have the one. Does anyone know the official procedure for changing or dropping part of a hyphenated last name?

Re: Fiance's name change

  • I changed my name 14 years ago.  I petitioned the court (there are standard forms for this) and my petition was granted.

Basically, I filled out the form, filed it with the clerk of court, paid the filing fee, was assigned a judge, contacted the Judge's Assistant and scheduled a hearing.  I went before the judge and explained why I wanted to change my name.  He granted my request and entered an order so I could get all my legal documents changed.

I think it's still the same.

    Good Luck!

  • I'm doing some research about this as well.....doesn't seem that hard but they told me is about $400 bucks. And the application mentions something about having fingerprints taken.

If anything I'd recommend he does this asap. We got married already and I suspect this is going to be a PITA.

    Good luck!
