Is $1500 a low dress budget?

I'm watching Say Yes To the Dress - Atlanta and a bride's budget is $1500 and they said that basically at that price point, they don't have a dress for her.  WTF?

I mean, sure, there are plenty of dresses out there that are well over $1500 but that is not a low budget for a dress, IMO.  As a bride walking into a bridal salon and they tell you they can't find you a dress for that price, that kinda ruins the appt for me, no?

The lady keeps saying that she has Champagne taste and beer budget. I'm sorry, maybe I'm wrong, but $1500 is not a beer budget. Maybe box wine or cider, but certainly not beer! lol

Seriously!

OMG Im watching the same thing!! lol I love it. I get so scared watching these shows because I want to keep mine at 2k and feel its nothing!

Um, if that's a beer budget ... I'm drinking Natty lite.

I spent half of that on my dress. Just didn't see a need to spend so much on something I was A.) going to wear for 8 hours B.) Basically destroy and C.) find something for $500 that was just as beautiful.

Oh, well. To each his own.

I watched SYTTD before I ever got engaged and I was so freaked out about affording a wedding dress, thinking that anything less than $5k would only get me a piece of crap.  I was so nervous at my 1st appt. with my $2000 budget I kept asking the lady who was helping me how much the dresses were b/c I was scared I was trying on dresses I couldn't afford.  She started laughing and told me that very few stores carry those crazy expensive dresses and that I would have no problem finding a beautiful dress within my budget.  She was right, I never ran into any crazy expensive dresses like those (and I went to tons of bridal boutiques) Did you see the one a few eeks ago with the $21,000 dress?  It was sssssssooooooooooo ugly!w

Don't fear!! There are plenty of beautiful gowns at that price point and below. You should be able to find something you love.

My budget was also $2K and I found a beautiful dress for $1800. Granted, the one I originally wanted from Jim Heljm turned out to be $5K, but there was no way! That's half my original wedding budget.

I fell in love with Maggie Sottero dresses and their fit. They fit the body so nicely, even for a plus size like me.

This is my dress. I got it with the lace bolero and the flower pin.

Oh, I guess I should have said that I ended up getting my dress for $1400 and I love it! I would post a pic but I'm always worried FI will see it somehow.

Lisa - most of the dresses I've seen either on that show or on Platinum Weddings that are ridiculously priced are usually fugly! At least to me. Those Pnina Tornay dresses are, imo, completely overpriced. Some are very pretty, but some are just fugly! To each it's own, I guess.

I found this Pnina one while searching for what I wanted, but just knowing that it was Pnina, I didn't even bother checking the price.

And by the way, does anyone else think that Monty from Say Yes to the Dress- Atlanta looks, sounds and acts a lot like Randy from the original Say Yes to the Dress?  Whom, btw, I love... I wish I could take him with me every time I go shopping for clothes. lol

I agree with him being a Randy spinoff.  I also don't really like the new Atlanta series.  I like the bridal consultants (and Randy) from Kleinfeld's much better.

Yes he is very randy. Mari I love your dress So beautiful. I also love Jim Hjelm and Lazaro. I dont want to look before January but its so hard!

I think one has to keep in mind that these shows focus on very expensive bridal shops. One girl was all like "we have a $5,000 budget"and the consultant was all "we  don't have much selection under that price point!"

I found a beautiful dress for under $1,000 and I can't imagine what could possibly be change about it to make it worth more money.

I truly think shows like these are just not worth watching.

Watching these shows freaked me out too when I saw how much some people pay!!
But the dresses I looked at online and liked were all under $1,000! lol

Either way, I ended up buying my dress at the Running of The Brides sale at Filene's Basement and payed even less!

you know I went into my wedding with the same mentality as Teresa.....why spend so much for 8 hours? I found a georgeous gown at David Bridal for $500 and I was excited about it!

Until I was offered a dress from David Tutera as a gift from my Aunt and Uncle.  So I went that route...even his dresses were around 2K.  I was shocked!  His stickers prices range from $1300 to $4000.

But every bride is different.  Every bride has their own budget...and as long as we are all happy with our gown, that is the most important thing!

I am wearing my dress from 3pm to 3am!!  haha.  after party in my dress....never want to take it off!!

LOL! @ Teresa!  I like it to watch them for the entertainment of the drama with the families. And it did help me solidify my opinion on one thing though, never take a big group of people with you to pick the dress. Actually, my first dress shopping trips I went by myself. If I learned anything from that show was that I didn't want someone saying, oh that's not good, when it was a dress I loved. So when I found the one I liked, then I took my mom. At that point, she HAD to love it. lol!

Oh! One time I saw a dress on that show that was like $6K or $7K and I found the exact same dress at David's Bridal for under $2K! LOL!  I'm sure it was a different designer, but I'm telling you, it was the same dress. lol  Suckers!

I agree with many of the girls, its just a show. They are designed to make us questio everything we do with our wedding. I pay around $900 and loved my dress. It was simple and modern for my destination wedding. I am in agreement with its for 1 day. I know its the most special day but no one knows whether your dress was $500 vs. $5000 unless they watch SYTTD of course! Either way, you can find plenty of dresses for a reasonable price.

Danielle. If someone offered me a David Tutera dress as a gift, I'd run with it, too! That's awesome!

Christina, I am in love with your dress! When I saw your wedding trailer, I had to keep rewatching it because it just looked so lovely on you! You are right, even in the Gables there were plenty of dresses under $2,000 and they are willing to lower their prices too like most places.

Ha!! You took the words right out of my mouth with this post! My budget is also $1500 & I was so annoyed that she kept referring to that amount as a "beer budget". I am actually dress shopping in Atlanta next weekend & am purposely not going to that place on Say Yes b/c they think $1500 is bad - whatev!!

my grandmother is buying my dress and she has 1,000 dollars saved for it. I am NOT going over that, I'm actually hoping to find something less than that so I can take the rest of the money and use it towards the wedding. My mother and I are MAJOR bargain shoppers, I hardly EVER pay full price for anything. We did the same thing for my 15's. my grandmother offered the same thing and we found a BEAUTIFUL dress for $600. I'm hoping the frugal God's will be on my side again lol

I think its all about your style, what you like and what looks great on you! I tried on the expensive dresses and the not so expensive dresses...for me it was all about what looked best and what made my mom and MOH and MIL cry did me in...mine was only $599 or something like that...maybe even less! At the end of the day, no one is going to be talking about how much you spent or didnt spend on your wedding dress...just how great you looked in it!

I agree with PP...I have never been to a wedding where i wondered how much the girls dress was...usually all i can think off was wow shes so beautiful...cause u know all brides are beautiful...and ive seen beautiful dresses for $500 and horrible ugly dress for $2000 it all depends on your taste, luck, and what you go fo..personally all my friends who have gotten marriend have had beautiful dress and all for about 500 or less...i cant see paying more then that unless your rich! Its only one day! LOL... FI said i better alter my dress after and wear it out! LOL
