Hello Ladies!!
I'm so excited, this week was my first week as the new history teacher at PACE, it was amazing! We announced the big news to the girls on Friday and they gave me tons of cheers, which is super encouraging! Now I get to spend most of next week doing training and planning... yay?
I also want to let anyone looking for work know that we are now desperately looking for a substitute (used to be me) as well as beginning the search for a career teacher. You do not need teaching experience, we have an awesome academic manager who will work with you to help you learn how to teach the students and run a safe, productive classroom. You do need to be flexible- things change at a moments notice- in addition to being a strong and confident person who will be able to be both a good role model and a figure of authority and respect. You don't need to be a taskmaster so much as someone who will not be walked over while still providing support and encouragment. A lot of our girls see PACE as one big family- so sometimes they need a tender, aunt-like figure, and sometimes a no-nonsense matriarch (most of our current staff are women).
The program is year-round, all girls aged 11-18 (6th-12th grade), both high school diploma and GED track students. There are only 7 teachers, 2 academic managers and 6 counselors, so as a staff we are very close-knit and supportive of one another, it makes for an amazing working environment, even with any and all challenges and last-minute changes we have to work around. If this sounds like something you would be interested in learning more about, please PM me for more details.
