ring insurance

Good morning ladies!

I'm always coming here for recs lol. Well last night something bad happened, and I realized "Oh Sh!t, my engagement ring isn't insured!" I accidentally put my ring in the washer and dryer. So dumb!!!! The main diamond is an heirloom, from my FI's late mother's engagmenet ring. I almost had a heart attack until I found it in the lint catcher thing. Thank you God! But one of the tiny diamonds is missing. I'm taking it to the jeweler today to fix.

Anyway, where did you get your ring insured? I almost don't want to wear it until I get it insured! I know I have to get it appraised first, so I'd appreciate recs for appraisers as well.

TIA!

Well I had two options - the first was to get renters insurance and include the ring in the contents (obviously for any insurance you will need paperwork like an appraisal for a ring like yours - our jewler provided us with the proper paper work) - but DH and I were in the process of buying a house so I waited and now insure the rings through our homeowners insurance.  Private jewlery insurance was more expensive in my experience and renters (or content) insurance was the best way I found if you dont own your own home - that way for only a little bit more money you can insure everything in your house~ HTH

We insured my ring under our homeowner's policy.  It was definitely less expensive than the jewelry only insurance policy.

I have insurance through Jewlers Mutual - and I'm so glad I do!  My ring was recently stolen when someone broke into my home.  Within 3 weeks of the incident the ring was replaced and I didn't have to pay anything!  My annual premium is about $180, but it varies depending on the county you live in (Broward was almost $40 less than Dade), and of course the value of your ring.  GL!

Yeah, homeowners insureance, which I have yet to do, actually. I also have the warranty/insurance thing with the jeweler.
  • I am in the process of getting a separate policy as my Homeowners Insurance only covers up to a certain amount and my ring is more than that amount.  :(

I was looking at their website earlier and thinking of going with them. Makes me feel better to see a good review. I'm not sure if the appraisal from the jeweler is good enough though. I gotta look into that.
