Venue panic! Opinions please

I was so very happy to come accross a reception hall I can afford however.. The outside leaves much to be desired. Its in a strip mall and a few blocks away from a questionable neighborhood.  My family on both sides is very middle upper and expects things to be a certain way. Espicially my weathy fathers side.. the inside of the venue I like alot!  Its nice and the price can't be beat.  The ladies are great to work with and I am paying for my own wedding.  I don't know what to do please help.

    Don't let others opinions rain down on your decisions. If you are paying for your own wedding and it's a venue which you love and are able to afford on your own then what does everyone elses' opinions really matters? Hopefully, your family will focus more on what the day is about (you and your FI) rather than how the outside of your reception. To ease your concerns, double check with the venue coordinator about any incidents which resulted in robbery or vandalism.

    On a side note, I went to a baby shower in the Village of Pinecrest and my car and another car were broken into and the police station was right around the freaking corner! The neighborhood is safe and occupied by middle class families and my car was the unfortunate one to have been broken into.

    You kinda said it yourself when you stated, "I am paying for my own wedding".  If they expect it to be "a certain way" AND they are "wealthy" then perhaps they should chip in.  If they are not putting anything into it, then they cannot have an opinion about where it's at.  Plus, no matter where you have a wedding, there will always be someone to say something negative about it.  I think if this place makes you happy and you can afford it, go for it!  It's YOUR day - I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry about what others think or say.  :-)

    If that is what you can afford AND you love it, I say go for it.  If your parents don't like it, tell them exactly what you said, that you are paying for it  not them.  People are going to have an opinion where ever you have the wedding.
