venue question- newbie

Hey ladies! I'm new, just got engaged last week. We are shooting for spring 2012 to get married.  I am just at the beginning stages of planning (more like looking!) and I was wondering how many Venues did everyone look at before they made a decision. I live in Central FL and we want to get married in S FL (where I'm from) so we have to plan 2 days to look at venues and I'm trying to figure out how many to look at.

Thanks!

congrats on your wedding!  Where in South Florida? Dade, Broward or Palm Beach County?

I researched about 20 venues...and maybe saw about 10.  My wedding is in Palm Beach County.

I haven't even decided specifically where. Ideally Palm Beach County to Fort Lauderdale is our area (my parents live in Boca) and I want the hotel on the beach because I want a wedding by the beach. But if I fell in love with a hotel in Miami I would go for it as well. So I'm still open but there are just so many places to look at, I feel like I might miss something awesome!

I am also getting married in Spring 2012 and  am in the same situation. I live in NYC and am getting married in S FL. We went down for the weekend and looked at 5 places and were fine making a decision after looking at that many. However, we had researched about 15, through the knot, facebook, and wedding wire. We contacted 10ish, and then chose 5 to look at in person. Since you are only going to spend 2 days looking, you really need to do the research beforehand- you don't want to waste your time going to places that are out of your budget, got bad reviews, or don't include elements that you would want.

weddings by the beach in Palm Beach County...not sure what your budget is or how many people..so here are some to get you started..

    The Breakers Hotel
    Delray Beach Marriott
The Seagate Hotel - Delray Beach
    The Boca Resort
    The Ritz Carlton
    The Hilton - Singer Island

those are some to get you started.

I wanted a beach wedding...but it came at a cost for a hotel on the beach...more $$ per person...so I ended up bringing it inland and chose the Boca Raton Marriott....we are getting married outside in the back by the fountain.  (pics in my bio)

    Hope this helps you!

    Welcome to the board!

I researched tons and tons of places, but when it came time to visit, it was only 4 that I decided to check out.

Congrats. and welcome to the board.

I've been engaged for almost a year, and we still haven't made a concrete decision on a location. I've researched probably at least 100 locations, and visited about 10.

In my experience, the more you look, the harder it is to decide, and since you're planning from afar, I def. agree with the other girls that you need to do your h.w. before getting to South Florida and visiting in person.

    Congrats and welcome!!!

Well my suggestion would be to call all the places that your interested in and have them email you their packages and pictures, then categorize them in the order  you like them best and set your appointments accordingly.

I had about 10 i was going to look at, but stopped at the 6th because i absolutely fell in love with it. I just knew it the minute i walked in. Just have them email you the packages, it will help you a lot. =)

    Welcome and Congrats!
I couldn't even tell you how many venues I researched online - it was A LOT. Most every venue has a website and a contact email.. just start asking away for prices/packages & pictures.
After a while I got sick of looking online and not finding what I wanted so we took a drive from Ft. Lauderdale up the coast to Singer Island and on another day from Ft. Lauderdale down the cost to South Beach. As we drove around, I scoped out places that looked nice or interesting and would write them down to research later.
In the end, we ended up actually looking at only 4 places and signed with the last one.

Not sure what your budget is, but the Delray Beach Marriott is really nice.

Thanks everyone. I just requested information from:

    the Boca beach club
    Ritz Palm beach
    The W fort lauderdale
The westin beach resort Fort lauderdale

I think I'll start there for now.  the ritz ft. lauderdale is still on my list and the Seagate hotel.

If anyone has any info on any of these let me know, otherwise I'll hopefully hear from them soon.
