plus size wedding gowns

Anyone know a good store locally to look for plus size dresses?

Well there is always david's bridal. They have larger sizes. And some of the other bridal shops have dresses that range from super small to size 22/24. I know Expressions in Mentor has larger dresses.

With David's Bridal it's always hit or miss when you go, even with an appointment. Sometimes the girls that work there are great and sometimes they aren't. But good luck with your search!

Catan Fashions has a section of plus size gowns as well.

No personal experience with this, but when I went to Bridal and Formal in Cincinnati they had a big rack of plus size gowns from different designers and there were several plus size ladies there. Bit far of a drive, but the selection was great.

I agree with JillianD! I am a plus size bride and I just ordered my dress yesterday from Bridal and Formal down in Cincinnati. I was very apprehensive, but they have so many dresses to choose from! There plus size display leaves something to be desired, but I was able to squeeze into even a size 8 (I'm a 16-18 pant) to see what it looked like. If you head down there I would recommend working with Lacrecia Erwin... she was the best!!! I picked out probably 12 dresses I liked, and she showed me many I had looked at and said "No way" but they ended up looking FABULOUS on me. I ended up picking something I never thought I would!

I was sort of dreading this aspect of wedding planning. I thought there would be so little to choose from. I  first tried on gowns at David's, and had a great experience. B/c they carry every gown in every other size, I got a great idea of what I liked and even found two I was ready to order that day.  The next day I went to Catan's... and well,  not so nice experience as David's.  They made me feel ginormous.  Seriously.  The sales associate mentioned my "larger size" about a dozen times.   I am a 22... and many of the gowns in stock were 16 or 18s... so still too small to try on.  They also didn't listen to what I liked. for example, if I said a dress had too much detailing, the next dress they brought in had even more detailing. I went in with a couple pages of dresses and styles I liked, and they barely looked at it. I almost ordered one of the David's gowns... and then saw a dress on the Knot by Mori Lee that I LOVED.  I looked around, tried it on near where I was living in Columbus, and ordered it from Dora's in Fairview.  Dora's was great!  They were easy to work with and had a good selection beyond the dress I liked (I tried on a few that day, just in case).

A couple designer websites to try are Bonny Bridal and Mori Lee.  They both have fairly large plus size collections.  I LOVED my dress :)

Thanks to all.  So far I have tried Candlelite Bridal and David's.  I found a dress I liked at Candlelite, but I still want to look, just in case.  David's had a large selection of plus, but I didn't like the craziness of the store.  I have appointments at Dora's and Expressions Bridal.  I loved the Bonny website - thanks for the tip.  I was also dreading this part of the planning, but it's not as bad as I expected.  Thanks to all for the helpful comments!
