Wedding-Related Nightmares

I didn't sleep at all last night.  Honestly, the fact that I'm a little worried about my wedding budget had me staring at my clock most of the night.  I've had a few items pop up that I never originally thought of.  First of all, my cake, which I budgeted $300 (laughable, I know) for is actually coming out to $440 (and this is the LEAST expensive quote I've gotten...some psycho wanted to charge me $675). And I NEVER EVER even considered transportation to the church and restaurant.  If I want to splurge on a Rolls, I'm going to have to pay $400 more.  Or I could settle for a regular limousine, which NO one is using nowadays, and spend, instead $250...which is still $250 more than I wanted to spend.

So yeah...My $6k budget is quickly turning to $7k.  I'd write an expletive here but I don't want to get Jen or Lynette mad at me.

Anyway, the few hours that I DID get some sleep, I had this AWFUL nightmare, which I've had in the past (even before I met FI)...it's just this recurring dream concerning my dress.  In nightmares past, the dress has either gotten extremely dirty the week of the wedding, or I waited to shop for it until the day BEFORE the wedding and then couldn't find one...stuff like that.  Last night I had this nightmare that when I went to open the garment bag with  my wedding dress inside, it was the wrong dress.  Instead of Ivory, it was white...and it was a sheath type dress instead of the trumpet style I'm having.  It was an atrocity of a dress, by the way, suited more for a 60 year old lady than a 28 year old bride. And when I asked the ladies at David's Bridal where the HELL my dress was, they told me they sold it to someone else and gave me a dress they considered more appropriate for the type of wedding I was having.  My wedding was the following day and I had no dress. So I did what any woman would have done in that type of situation...I threw myself on the floor and started screaming and crying and I turned into a regular Linda Blair.

Sorry this ended up being so long but you ladies are better than a psychologist and I kinda needed to vent.

Either way, do you ladies have any wedding related nightmares you'd like to share?? Please do.  I don't want to feel like the only psycho.

janet, im using a black limo :) my mom wanted me to get the rolls, but everyoneeee gets it and i like to go against her lol so i got the limo. its a classic !

Melissa, you have no idea how much better that makes me feel.  This morning I was talking to FI about it and I told him that my Maid of Honor told me that a black limo was old school and "reffy".  He looked at me like, "Are you insane?"  And he told me that he hadn't even realized black limos had gone out of style.  He's a guy though, and an older one at that (ten years older, a little more old fashioned than me) so the things he said didn't really make me feel any better.  But if a fellow knottie is having a black limo...then I don't see why the hell not.  Seriously...the thought of spending $400 on a car rental for three hours is driving me insane.

I am having them every night lately.
The other night I had a dream that I got the venue and nothing was done. I hadnt done a thing; no alterations on my dress, no programs, no food choices NOTHING! I woke up sweating and at 4am started going thru my to-do list from the last year.
Then last night, I dreamt that I didnt have a make up person so I let my friend do it, and she did it like a clown. I tried to leave but crashed my dads car into a tree and when I looked in my rearview window everyone was laughing at me!
Needless to say, well rested is something Im not nor will I be till its all over!

LMAO...trust me Karen, I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you.  The clown-makeup thing is hilarious.  I know we're all happy we're doing this, but man, I'm going to breathe such a sigh of relief after it's all over.

My limo was only $270 and i feel so much better not having spent $400 on a Rolls! Thats nuts! Id splurge on something else..Not alot of people, if any, will see you getting in or out of the car so its not worth it. If your cuban you know the term like I told my mom in this case " Yo no me voy a tirar el peo mas alto que el culo con el carro!!" LOL save it for killer shoes or champagne ;) with the other $275 i DIDNT waste getting a Rolls, Im using it as the deposit for a coffee cart for the reception :)

It will be worth it once its all over..thats what I keep telling myself!

Nightmares happen to most brides!! I've had my share!

The one I remember the most is it's d day and I never booked my hair and makeup. I also never got my undergarments and my dress was 2 sizes too big. And I cried and blamed my mom for everything. So when I woke up, I called her and yelled at her and told her to make sure that doesn't happen. Haha.

LOL!!!  You are not psycho, my dear. I've been having wedding nightmares for some time now. Some are dress related, other flowers related, venue, food.. you name it, I've had a nightmare about it. The other night I dreamt my fiance was living in an apartment on the 200 level of Joe Robbie Stadium (it will always be JR to me). I went in to see him during a game and he said that he didn't have time for me because he was going to sleep with another woman. Needless to say I screamed and ran out of there.. took my e-ring off and threw it down the seats. As I was going down, posting nasty Facebook statuses about my FI being an arse, Tom Hanks picked up the ring and gave it back to me. Told me to keep my chin up!

I was so upset with that dream I punched my FI in the bed and didn't speak to him for a few hours. He laughed and said.. what did I do now in your dreams?

Yes.. weddings make people crazy!!!  Psychos!!! lol

Oh.. and limos are perfectly fine. Not reffy or tacky or any of that. Then again, I'm almost Pirata's age, so I may be old fashioned too. lol

Crap.. am I the oldest bride here?  Surprised

Reading your stories makes me feel SO much better!  I've also been having nightmares, and fretting the smallest decisions and being OCD about everything.  I'm afraid people think I'm losing my mind!  I'm so glad to know it's "normal" bride behavior!

Limo is fine! and you have much more room and a/c. the rolls a/c's usually work on and off because the cars are so old. i rather pull up in a limo then risk the a/c.  you can also rent a hummer. my friends did that and they had it all weekend for the same price as renting a limo. only prob is that either FI has to drive it or a groomsmen has to drive it. sorry just throwing ideas out there. :)

LMAAAAOOOOOO!  We've got some crazy knotties in this forum.  Thank goodness I'm not the only one!!!

Thank you for the encouragement and ideas ladies!  Makes me feel so much better, you have no idea.  Rosemery, your Tom Hanks dream had me peeing in my pants..that was too much.

Alexandra thank you so much for your advice about the ac, hadn't even thought of that!!!

Candis I'm glad I make you feel better; yes, the wedding is making me just as insane as it's making you!! LOL

Lynette, I remember reading that in another post, that you had gone over budget with the venue ALONE...almost hyperventilated for you.  I just don't know where I'm going to come up with the extra grand I hadn't accounted for.

I was going to make an inappropriate joke about temporarily going into prostitution but if my FI ever finds these posts, I don't think he'll appreciate it.

I'm not renting a car for my wedding day, I'm either going in my brother's Jaguar or uncle's Mercedes and my uncle will drive us. I too can't see myself spending $400 for a Rolls! Barely anyone will see me and FI arrive at the reception venue and I think I'll be getting ready at the Church with my bridesmaids.

But a limo is perfect, my 26 year old cousin got married this summer and had one and it was great! We didn't see them arrive or anything, but it is a beautiful way to arrive to your venues and not have to worry about someone you know driving you and listening to the sweet words you and your new husband will be saying! lol I'm going to make my FI whisper! haha

I budgeted $400 or so for my wedding cake for 170 people! lol I was going to check with Publix but my FI's cousin is making it for us as a wedding gift. She makes really cute small cakes and cupcakes, but I don't think she can make such a tall cake so we might do a cupcake tower with a small cake on the top or smaller cakes on pedestals of different heights. So you are not crazy with what you'd like to keep it at.

No wedding nightmares for me....yet! But as I read of everyone else's...tonight might be baaad for me!

Natalie - I don' t know if Publix would be any cheaper. For the cake I want, 100 people, 3 tier, fondant. Nothing crazy in design... Top and bottom square with Chanel/quilt pattern, center round with no pattern. I'm adding a satin ribbon in center tier.

    Quotes

    Edda - $525
    Divine - $660
    Elite - $600
    Elegant Temptations - $1300
    A Piece of Cake - $1200
    Nomi - $600
    Madelyn - $600
a lady that works from her house - $500
    Publix - $525

    My original budget... $200-300!! HA!!

Thanks Rosmery, great info on pricing...hope that can help other brides too!  Now I'm super glad my FI's cousin is making it for us. Our cake budgets are awesome lol!

I saw your idea to have an ice cream bar and I was going to recommend Three Scoops Ice Cream. I believe it was $3 for one scoop before, but now it's up to $4.

Can't we just pay an attendant and buy the ice cream ourselves?! lol I liked your idea of having an ice cream truck come by, that would have been cute!

Nice.. thanks. I'll check them out.

Well, I was t hinking of just buying the ice cream and toppings myself and letting the guests do it themselves. Just need to find a way of keeping it cold.

His brother's inlaw has an ice cream truck and I thought that would be cute, but I was told "hell no, that's tacky". lol I think it's cute.

Rosemery, I'm having a lady named Lorena doing my cake...excellent cakes and attention to detail, and her vanilla rum is delicious.  If you want her info, let me know.  I'm telling you girl, she's charging me $440 with delivery and everything, she might offer you a better price as well.

    Rosemary,

What about doing the cake you want in a scaled down version (say that can feed about 40 people), then have publix make a sheet cake with the same color icing to feed the rest.  The cake gets served from the kitchen anyways and really no one will be that close to your cake to realize the difference.  That is what we're doing.

OK as far as crazy dreams...two nights ago i dram that i was getting ready was looking in a mirrir and that my dress was not right but it was nice so i was like fine its kinda what i wanted but when i looked up i noticed my hair was a HOT mess... i mean i had not even brushed or blowdried it..and u dont understand if i dont blowdry my hair i have to pick it up in a bun but of course that didnt accour to me so i was frantically looking for a blow drier and my hair kept getting worse when i would try to fix it...and then my dream got crazy and i was running around all over the place in my dress..no flowers nothing..couldnt find anything :(

as far as the cake i agree with pp...have them make a smaller one and buy a sheet cake...maybe even the cake lady can make one with the same flavours they usually will do it... and trust me a cake for 10 ppl less is still ALOT of cake more then u need... usually they cut them in small pieces at the resturant and the way the baker meausre it is bigger! imma have someone pick mines up in the morning and take it to wherever we have the reception before coming to the ceremony lol
