calligraphy?

hey ladies!!

i love the idea of calligraphy but it pains me to have to pay for it for all outer envelopes and escort cards. especially when more and more calligraphy samples lean towards cute modern almost handwritten fonts instead of oldschool edwardian script that only professionals can do.. lol
should i just go buy a pen and try it out myself or would you pay for it?
how else are you girls addressing your invites!??

TIA!

My invitation company printed our envelopes with a caligraphy font and it came out amazing.  We had another friend who paid a calligrapher to do her envelopes and I've heard from a few people that ours look just as good as hers did, and we paid about 2/3 of what she did for the envelopes.

theres a website i think called 1001 fonts or also dafonts.com and both of those have a ton of fonts that are free to download.  Otherwise there are a bunch of sites where you can buy a font (usually about $20, but still cheaper than paying per envelope).

You can just google free fonts or anything like that, and you can download them. This is such a money saver, that there was no question about it for me. I just don't think it's worth paying for callig. on something that most people will just put in the garbage. However, if I wasn't on such a tight budget, I would be paying for callig., just so I wouldn't have to do any of the work myself.

I checked out www.inkspun.com and at the very bottom of the order form, you have to add $8.00 for setup.

I went with www.tampacalligraphy.com. She met me at International Mall (1/2 way between her house and my work) and had them finished the next day.  She charged $.50 per envelope and no set up fee.

This is a dumb question but does Tampa Calligrapher's do the invitations by hand or by computer? I see that there are computer calligraphy services now and couldn't tell which she was.

    Thanks!

We used a calligrapher back in Pa where I am from.  My sisters both used her and she was great.  We just put our envelopes in rthe mail this week.  She was easy to work with and reasonable and quick.  She was done way before she said she would be.  She only charged us 0.50 for the outer envelope and it was handwritten.   I am actaully getting the place cards ready to mail to her.  Her email if you are interested is lmmcalligraphy at comcast dot net.  Good luck w/ whatever you choose.

www.tampacalligraphy.com does computer calligraphy.  She's really inexpensive ($.50 each envelope) and got mine back to me the next day.

By all means look at afineletter.com if you want a flouishy design.  Melanie has several beautiful designs from ultra fancy to modern.  and her prices are amazing.  It's truly worth looking into. And she's just great to work with.  Good luck!
