Re: shoe dye yes or no???

  • What's the shade of red you are looking for? Dying them wouldn't be a bad option but are you considering on wearing the shoes again (after the wedding)? If you are then I would say look for a shoe that is already red in the shade you are look for.

I have these beautiful red heels (lighter than blood red) and they were about $30. I always get compliments on the shoes.
  • its like a burned red. and i would use them again if i had 2. Im not sure how the dye works if it last forever or whatever.

  • Hmmm...I have no clue on how long the dye lasts but dyed shoes do look nice in the color you ultimately want. If you know for a fact the color you want is hard to find then I say dye them :) Not sure the average price for shoes dyed professionally or are you planning on dying them?
  • TBH when I looked into getting dyed shoes, they couldn't guarentee that they wouldn't bleed if they got wet.  That scared me out of dying my shoes.

  • My experience has been that as long as it's not a dark color or care that it's going to run as soon as I start sweating, I totally love shoes to match the dress.

  • I am getting shoes dyed the exact same teal as my girls' dresses- it will subtly match and also be my something blue. I love that color and have a couple tops that I will be able to wear with them after the fact. I found a sealant that is supposed to work fairly well in 'wet-proofing' the dyed shoes. If you get them soaked in rain/puddles they will probably bleed, but a little sweat, etc should be just fine. This is the product I'll be using to protect my shoes: http://www.cadillacshoe.com/cadillacshoe/Water%20Repellents/Shield.html
Also, consider finding a pair of shoes that could also look great in black if you're worried you won't want to rewear the red. Any dyed shoe can be re-dyed in black- you just can't use any sealant on them until after you have them dyed black- since most shoe dyes are water based (seriously you'd think someone have fixed that bad idea by now), the sealant blocks the dye from absorbing fully into the shoe. If you have any other questions ask away, I have a ton of research gathered on this and can offer loads of advice (except on how well the dye holds up... my shoes haven't arrived from DB yet!). HTH!
