Weird to book wedding same day as best friend's bday?

My fiancé and I are looking to get married sometime in Feb/March 2012. The place we love the most has only one day available in Feb and one day available in March. Bad thing about the Feb date is that it's the same weekend as the food and wine festival so hotels/flights will probably be expensive and we'll probably have a lot of out of town guests attending. So now we're thinking booking the March date but it's the SAME date as my best friend's birthday! I'm definitely going to talk about it with her. It's not a milestone birthday but I also don't want her to get mad that my wedding will also be on her day too. What do you think? Would you be mad if you had to go to a wedding on your birthday?

I wouldn't be mad about this and I actually know a friend this happened to... and no issues came up out of it. I think it would be fun for your BM! If she is a bridesmaid, maybe you can cut her a small cake while you are all getting ready and sing happy birthday to her so she is able to have it sung on her actual birthday at one point?

I don't thin kit would be a big deal, but I would bring it up to her so she has a heads up and isn't surprised about it later on.

And I really like Nina's idea :) It'll make her feel special

I agree with WeAreG's. You should talk with her of course and if she has no problem with it then go for it. You can get her a little cake and if you wanna make it a bigger deal. You could give it to her during the reception and have everyone sing happy birthday. Or if you want it low key than just give her a cake and/or little gift before the wedding. HTH!!

I would talk to her first, but I doubt it will be a big deal. I've actually been to two weddings where they've recognized a birthday of someone in the bridal party. One was for a flower girl, and they actually sang to her during the reception. It was cute, but unnecessary if you're over the age of 10 :) It was a bridesmiad's birthday during another wedding, and the DJ wished her a happy birthday after cake cutting and I believe the slice of cake she was given had a candle in it.

With that being said, my best friend thinks of her birthday as a holiday and would probably expect that I make a big deal about it on the day of the wedding, and I went out with her the night before or after my wedding for her birthday party (I live in NYC, she lives in FL and she makes me feel guilty for not attending her birthday parties... I'm actually flying down for it this year, and it's not a milestone birthday, I'm just tired of her complaining). Also, your wedding anniversary will be your best friend's birthday, so are you going to want to miss her birthday parties every year, or put off celebrating your anniversary because you're going to a birthday party.

So, with all of that being said, I probably wouldn't do it, but my best friend is crazy about her birthday. If yours isn't, I don't think it's a big deal :)

My daughter is getting married next weekend- the same date as the food and wine festival. Flights for our family did not seem any more expensive than any other Feb that I have come visited (I live in PA). Generally the flights are a bit more expensive duing the winter months for those of us trying to escape the cold, gloomy, snowy winter up north. Finding a hotel block was not a problem either. When we tried to book on our own, it seemed like the rooms were all sold out (and this was back in the summer)- but I tried hotelplanner.com and I got many responses from hotels with openings, both in Miami Beach and Miami. Hotels in Miami Beach tend to be more expensive whether it is because they are on the beach or because it is high season for tourists (see reason above!). We decided against the beach hotels and chose a hotel in Miami with a better price for our guests. 1 and 2 bedroom suite rooms with full kitchens and free full breakfast, appetizer and wine reception (complimentary) Mon- Thurs evening, free grocery delivery service, free shuttle bus within 3 miles, gym and pool, We figured that guest could double up (since each bedroom has its own bathroom) and split the costs to save money. A few guests are doing this. Just for comparison- our group rate was $129/night for a 1 BR suite and $149 for a 2 bedroom suite.
The only thing we are concerned about is the traffic getting to the beach for the reception. My husband and I rented a shuttle bus for our OOT guests so they don't have to deal with the traffic. Really the only problem we have found with this weekend is that the my family wants to spend some time on South Beach on Friday before the rehearsal dinner and I am dreading that because of the crowds.
Hope this helps. I'll post some reviews after the wedding and let you know how the traffic was!

I posted this in the other one, didn't realize it was a double post:

I don't think it's weird.  She has a birthday every year, so it's not like it should be something that's- OMG It's my day- worthy.  Ya know?

    I certainly wouldn't be mad.

I'll also add, if it's a venue you like and want.  Do it.  If your "best friend" doesn't realize how important it is to you and wants to cause a scene because of her birthday maybe she's not as good of a friend as you thought she was.

I also agree with the girls - Talk to her and see if she would be ok with it.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it, mostly because I try to think about how I would feel in these situations, and I honestly wouldn't mind at all if one of my BFFs were getting married on my birthday.

I got married on a good friend's birthday and it wasn't an issue at all. She came to the wedding and had a great time!

I would def talk to her. My cousin got married on my 16th bday, She asked me if it was ok and i of course said it was no big deal.  Only thing i can suggest. If you tell her you are going to make a special shout out via the DJ about her bday make sure you do it. My cousin promised me she would and never did. Granted it might have been a bigger deal at 16 then how old your bff is. I dont get along very well with my cousin so she always says that was our wedding day which happens to be my cousins bday... Somehow that makes me mad.  so i must correct her by saying no no my bday ur wedding day. I think this si thoughtful that you want to make sure she is ok with this. You seem like a great friend and would never forget its her bday and its not just your wedding anniv. Sorry for my rant lol

I'm getting married on my best friend's birthday. She's excited and doesn't care at all (or so she says). I plan on giving her a present, spending a little extra time with her the day before, etc. I also plan to sing to her (happy birthday- nothing too exciting!) at the reception.

She is also my MOH. I'd definitely talk to your BFF and see what she thinks.

Thanks everyone!  You were right, I talked to my BF and she was totally fine with us booking our wedding on her bday.  We're actually going all out for her bday this year (milestone bday) and my wedding is next year so she had no issues with it.  I've also learned that our wedding date will also be the same day as my fiance's BF's wife's birthday so I think we'll do something at the reception for both of them like ask the DJ to do a birthday shout-out and sing to them or something.

I feel so much better after talking to her.  Thank you all for your input!
