Do I have to have DJ?

Is it cliche, or is it just me? I feel like having someone in the corner of the room playing music is just awkward. I guess if I don't have one, I won't have music to walk down the aisle, but maybe I could just bring in a sound system? What are you ladies with outside weddings doing?

I think most people here are using either musicians to play music on some sort of instrument, a band or DJ. I dont personally feel weird having someone on the side of the room playing music for me, they are pretty much the life of the party and usually are set up somewhere other than a corner. But if you feel weird about it maybe look into having a musician play for you or even use your Ipod if you want to go that route. HTH and GL

I think its far more awkward to NOT have someone playing music. Why would it be weird to have a DJ? Thats literally their job, to stand in a corner and play music.

I agree with Jillian, it's not weird, it's actually expected. If you have a sound system, chances are you might want to have someone control it, goodness knows what could happen. Imagine walking down the aisle and the song skipping. That's why you have a DJ.

Ceremony musicians also work, it's a more traditional approach, too.

I guess I'm just picturing something out of The Wedding Singer. I think I will look into having a musician come in, though. Thanks Lacey.

I think it all depends on your venue etc.  I went to a home wedding once where they used a stero system and planned music - (they sort of had a dj if you think of it because it was someones job to man the player) - because of the way the wedding was planned - there was no reason for them to have had a dj.  I will say there was very little dancing.  However - if you really want people to dance and that is part of your "vision" think about requesting videos of bands when you are searching - then you will see if they are "wedding singer bands" - I personally think the DJ I chose will be a great source of entertainment - not only to play music and make my guests dance - but to make announcements/toasts/etc. which we plan on using him for as well....

If an I-pod and boom-box work for you then go at it!  Otherwise I'm sure you will find the perfect type of music for you!

an alternative could be an "ipod dj" but I honestly don't see why it's akward to have someone playing music at a wedidng. It's p retty commom./

I went to a wedding where they just played music from an ipod, the selections were terrible and undancable, if you do decide to go that route, make sure you think of what kind of music is good for the party not just songs you like,

I have been toying with the IPOD DJ Idea because we have a dj system but not sure if we can get someone to actually dj it lol...(even though even if its the IPOD DJ we still ganna have ppl picking songs) I done it at partys and if you pick GOOD PARTY songs then it works out... I know what my family likes and my fiances so I think it would be ok...the only things missing from not having one is someone to HOST the events.
