Today's Topic: location!

Where are you getting married? How did you decide where to do the deed? Did you put a deposit down on one place and change your mind later (we sure did!)? PIP if you can!Lay it on me!

Re: Today's Topic: location!

• We chose our venue for three reasons: 1. It was attached to our reception siteand2. It's not super huge so our tiny little wedding of 50 guests wouldn't be rattling around like pennies in a gas tankerand 3. The price was right
• Well, we were going to get married in my hometown until my church decided that I hadn't been there in years (four years, to be exact, because I was IN COLLEGE) so I was no longer a member, and for all intents and purposes, not allowed to get married there.  We could have joined another church and gone there for like a year and then wait to see if that priest would LET us get married in "my" church, and I just wasn't that interested in being Catholic.  So we're getting married in FI's church instead.  Of course, it was FI's grandpap's church and I can't manage to go there anymore without crying.  Grandpap was really excited about us getting married in his church, and he passed away unexpectedly about two months ago after driving himself to the ER with stomach pains where the staff apparently gave him medication and then left him unmonitored for an indeterminate amount of time.  Fortunately, our ceremony is really short, so we shouldn't be in church too long!
• In Lancaster OH (about 20 min outside of Columbus). We did not want to get married in a church. We are getting married and having the ceremony at the same place. I think that was a big one for me...I put down the deposit and thought I had made the wrong decision for the longest time, but I feel a little better now. :)

• we havent booked yet. still looking around. Our favorite place so far is the musee Conti. a wax museum here in new orleans. We like the creepiness of the wax figures and that they do costumed tour guides and tarot readings. gret for a halloween wedding, no? http://www.neworleanswaxmuseum.com/
• I was worried that I wasn't going to like the property that we're having the ceremony and reception at, but I have a changed my mind. It's beautiful and a blessing to have it. It's in Sequim, Washington, which is where Chris lived for most of his life. It's famous for being the most perfect climate in the U.S. to grow lavender. We ran across the woman who owns the property when we were shopping for wedding stuff. She said we can do whatever we want as long as we have designated drivers for anyone that drinks. Which is already something I have told everyone attending. I can't wait to look at the property again so we can do some more planning! I still have no clue how to post pics directly in my post, but I have pictures of the venue in my bio. amblizman, so sorry to hear that. we just found out my fiance's grandmother isn't doing well. We're not sure she's going to make it to next July for our wedding. We're really praying that she does. It's hard to think about starting your life together when someone else's is ending or has ended. It is the circle of life though, unfortunately. I may be weird and talking all spiritual and stuff, but those loved ones and ancestors are still there to guide us through it. I'm sure you know that, but it is good to hear it from others as well.

• We're getting married at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.  It's an old state psychiatric hospital now with private owners that happen to be FI's best-friends. We were visiting our friend checking out the layout for the annual haunted house for Halloween and they offered for us to be married there.  We're also having the reception in the old cafeteria. It's been featured on Ghosthunters and is certified as haunted by TAPS.  We'll be offering heritage tours and ghost tours for guests during the reception. It's a National Historic Landmark and a beautiful old stone building!  More pics in my bio.   www.trans-alleghenylunaticasylum.com
• We're getting married (weather permitting) on the meadow in front of a lake. Otherwise it will be in the chapel behind it, which is non-denominational and accepts all faiths. This was probably the most important thing to me. I either get married outside, or in a place with an open mind. My father and FI's parents would just *love* for us to get married in a church but it's not happening.
• Very sadly, we can't have a church wedding in our area because the churches here are very strict, and since we live together already, we're not allowed *rolls eyes* As it happens, three of my closest friends are pastors, and they've rallied in support for us and one (newly credentialed, so we'll be her first wedding!) is going to officiate for us! Screw the church wedding, God is everywhere. We're doing our ceremony (which is only 4.5 mins-5 mins long, depending on how fast she talks) in the same place as our reception-Fuzio's restaurant. Their banquet hall is free, and they allow in cakes with manager's approval. There is ample parking and its right off the freeway for OOT guests. Plus, wine is half off during happy hour WOOT and the food is GREAT.
