cake or cupcakes

So we've been to one cupcake tasting and 2 cake tastings. I love the idea of having a beautiful cake but the cupcakes taste much better. What should I do? What would you prefer if you were a guest at a wedding?

Are they from the same place? Or could you order half and half? I remember seeing a small 2 tier cake surrounded by mini cupcakes on lots of blogs. It looked so cute!

I like the traditional feel of the wedding cake. However, I thought Jessebel had a great mix of the two aspects.

We were going to go the cupcake route until the baker we chose had to change locations. You could do both like others have suggested if the cost isn't crazy. I love the idea of cupcakes!

I had cupcakes! with a one tier cake, so we can cut into. My guest liked that they had the option of choosing from carrot/chocolate/white/red velvet/banana cupcakes...Yes I know lots of choices but they were all soo good, we had to have some of each flavor.

Well, as a guest and a to be bride- I prefer the cupcakes. I usually am so focused on my dance party, I miss every cake cutting...or I'm in line for the potty....My venue lady had a cool idea of doing a large cupcake for bride and groom so at least you still had something to "cut"??

The cupcakes would be from Frosted. The cake would be from Rossmoor or I've thought of also trying Torrance. The reason why I'm questioning it now is because I almost felt sick to my stomach after both cake tastings. It wasn't the kind of cake where I was like..mmm I want more of that. However, I LOVE frosted cupcakes! They said we can do a larger cupcake to cut into but it's really not that big. Not like a mini cake. Plus, I want something to put a cake topper on. hmmm..FI wants cupcakes, BM suggested cupcakes, you girls seem to (mostly) love the cupcakes....maybe we'll do cupcakes. Frosted is closed today so I have to give myself until at least tomorrow to decide. all I know is all these cake tastings are making me fat!

i love the look of wedding cakes, i'm not a fan of the tiered cupcake look. that being said i'm somewhat of a cupcake connoissuer & LOVE cupcakes. i'll probably end up going the wedding cake route though, because my favorite cupcakes are in burbank and my venue is 3hrs away in arroyo grande.

Cupcakes!Fi is going to build a wooden cupcake tower with a base on top for a mini cake on top to "cut" into. I really want to do funfetti cupcakes with whipped cream frosting and a little bit of decoration on the top. It won't be too sweet. And hopefully cost a little less.Let us know what you decide. :)

You could do a mini bride and groom cake with a topper in addition to cup cakes. That way you would have something to cut into :) Damn this is really making me crave a cupcake!

shortnug - that's really what I'd like to do but the cupcakery doesn't do mini cakes. only giant cupcakes. I could get a mini cake from Rossmoor and then the cupcakes from Frosted but then they won't really match. hmm.... I'm leaning toward cupcakes though.

I think you could get them to match if they were from 2 different places. Just find out first how the cupcakes will look and then take a pic to the cake place of what you want, or I guess vice versa would work. I did a two tier wedding cake and Eagle's helmet groom's cake and they ended up at least going together because the flowers were the same, so I'm sure you could make cupcakes and cake work :)
