Ohio-Cleveland

Bakery

Hey Ladies,

I am planning my wedding from Houston, TX. It will be in Cleveland, Oh.  I need some suggestions on good bakeries to buy wedding cake from.  I will be going home in March. So I would like to find places now that I can call and get estimates from.  Not looking for anything to extravagant! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey...I'm pretty sure I know who this is ;) Congrats on the engagement and tell your sister I say hi if you talk to her soon :)

I've been looking myself and found Kathy's Cakes in Solon.  My brother is friends with her daughter and all the reviews I've seen say her cakes are delicious.  Especially if you aren't looking for anything fancy.

For a tasty, basic, well-priced cake, check out Breads and Beyond Bakery in Parma. They did our cake and it was wonderful! Basic flavors are around $1.85/slice. Web site:

IIRC, we had chocolate cake and white cake layers. They also did a custom raspberry filling for us. YUM! And, pics in my bio of the cake design.

We loved our cake from Becker's in Fairview.   We loved it so much we ordered another for my birthday when we were in town over the holidays!

I will second Breads and Beyond in Parma.  I am not getting my wedding cake there because our cake is included in our venue package but I have ordered birthdayand shower cakes from them and they are fantastic and very affordable.
Other options are Michealangelo's in Broadview Hts, very tasty and beautiful cakes and their prices are not too bad.  We are getting our wedding cake from Wild Flour Bakery in Rocky River.  We just ordered my birthday cake from them and it was wonderful.

Sorry to be negative about vendor another poster is using but I must say a couple words about Kathy's Cakes--I ordered my wedding cake, grooms cake and pastry tray from her.  They were all delicious.
HOWEVER...my wedding cake looked nothing like I ordered, the groom's cake was extremely amateurish and did not have the right filling, she was 2.5 hours late delivering it and no one could get a hold of her, she sent the bill to the wrong place then hounded my cousin and mother for the money.  I have other thoughts that would be considered opinion, not fact so I won't state them.  She knows my cousin personally so I can't even imagine what the service level would be like if the order was from a complete stranger.

taddeogriffith: No offense taken :)  I'm not set on using her, I had just heard good things about the taste of her cake and her prices were reasonable :)  Good to know that you had a bad experience though, it is always good to know the "good, the bad, and the ugly" of a vendor.

Try Cakes by Christina in Kent.  I would have to think she would deliver to Cleveland.

Another vote for Becker's. Sue is really awesome and easy to work with. And their stuff is great and extremely affordable!

I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I actually just started a local business in Strongsville that does Cake Balls and Cake Ball Pops-we have over 50 flavors, and we can custom decorate and package them. Some people like them for favors, some brides use them for the dessert table, others use them in a "cupcake cake" to add some fun to it. You could always do an adorable small cake, and then do cake balls, or even set up a "cake ball bar" and have a small box (which can even be personalized) for guests to pick the flavor(s) they want (this could double as the cake AND favor). We typically sell our cake balls for $15-$16.50 per dozen ($1.25-$1.50 each), and the pops (on a stick) are an additional $3/doz. We offer discounts on orders of 8 dozen or more. We even have little bride and groom decorated cake balls, pops, and strawberries. Just a few ideas. We can do a lot to work with a budget or what the couple wants. We would be more than happy to set up a meeting if you wanted to sample some or have questions. Visit our site at: www.TheCuteLittleCakeShop.com. Hope it's something that interests you! Thanks!

FI and I tasted A LOT of cake, and Becker's in Fairview Park is the absolute best, by far.  Our second runner up was Wild Flour Bakery in Rocky River.
