Mon Amie Private Label???

Hello All,So I found the dress of my dreams at Mon Amie in southern California. When I asked who the designer was (b/c the tag was cut out), the sales assistant told me it was a private label exclusive to their store. I asked if that meant it was made in house and she said no. My sister (who is quite knowledgable about wedding gowns) thinks the whole thing is a little suspicious and they are not telling us the whole truth. I want to know what the deal is because I think it is THE DRESS!Does anyone know anything about "private label" dresses at Mon Amie? Thanks!!!

Were you able to take pictures? There should have been a label of sorts on the dress. It's illegal for them to remove a tag and not replace it with anything. They can replace it with an in store tag, but they are in FTC violation if they don't replace it at all.Check out the links in my bio. I have a direct link in there where you can file an online complaint.  There are hefty fines for business who pull this kind of stunts.  They are can be fined upto $11,000 for doing that kind of stuff. When I went dress shopping, the instant I noticed a salon refusing to disclose the make, model and style of the dresses they offered, I walked out. You have a right to know what you are buying before you buy it. Even if it is a wedding dress.A bunch of vendors will get all hot and bothered about it and say "well you go to our store, try it on and then order it online--that's not fair!"Um, well, that's standard a practice in capitalism. You can go to a car dealership, test drive it, and then find the same make and model for a better price at a different dealership. And it's a standard practice not only in the automobile industry(note cars are way more expensive than bridal dresses), but retail in general. If I were you, I'd try to snap a few pictures of the dress and continue my search elsewhere. If from the very moment you try on the dress they are already being less than honest why should you put your money and your trust in them?

I also went through this same thing at Mon Amie but the dress actually had a Mon Amie tag in it. They used to just rip the tags out but I think they got in trouble. I tried very hard to find the dress online or anywhere else and never could. I did notice however that the dress looked almost identical to a Paloma Blanca dress with the exception that there was some detail added to the hem. When I asked the store clerk about it she told me that designers make "exclusive" dresses just for Mon Amie, which yes, does happen sometimes with high end lines but it's not typical and Mon Amie is now Kleinfeld's. I'd call their bluff and threaten to report them. Something else to notice is that their "private" label dresses don't have a tag that says fabric type, where it's made, washing instructions, etc.. which are all legally required. Go in there with a friend and when you are in the dress tell the clerk you want to try on such in such dress that you saw on the rack outside and then snap some pics while she's gone.

I have not gone to Mon Amie yet, but just on Friday one of my co workers recommended the place to me because she knows a lot of girls that gotten their dream dress there. It's terrible to hear that they rip the tags out, I heard about stores doing this in a wedding book I have but so far all the store I have gone to, their dresses have the tags and prices on them & most of them let you take pictures. Hope you find out who it is!

I went to Mon Amie and had a wonderful experience. My sales clerk was Nicole and she spent almost 2 hours with us. We snuck a few pictures as long as she wasn't in the room - she was cool with that "wink wink." I don't remember any tags being cut out and I ended up buying my dress there.

I had the exact same problem!  I never was able to find out the model number for the dress and they told me it was exclusively made for them.  Yeah right.  Anyway, I recognized other dresses there that I had tried on at other stores and their markup is INSANE!!!  For example, one dress I tried on was priced at $2,200 and I had tried on the exact same dress at another shop and it was $900 there.  My advice is to try to find out the designer and model number and find somewhere else that has better prices.  Also, I figured out quickly in my search to not trust dress shops that don't let you take pictures.  Lots of them do, in fact the sales girl will usually take it for you.  Good luck!

I agree about Mon Amie's outrageous prices. I tried on a dress in their "outlet" that they had originally priced at $1400. They had ripped out the designer label and the sample dress down to $900 in their outlet. They said they would include spot cleaning. The dress was 2 sizes too small for me and the salesperson and seamstress tried to convince me that the alterations would only be $150 and that if "you can lose a couple sizes of weight!" (haha) and alter it to the right size. RIGHT! I later found the same dress for $650 at another store! A true ripoff! Mon Amie doesn't rip out the labels on their high end designers because they are the only store in OC that sells those designers. But any brand you can get at another local store has the tags ripped out or replaced with theirs because they know they are gouging you!
