Will you be in debt after the wedding?

Hello ladies, Just thought I would bring a little $$ talk regarding all the wedding expences. On one of my Make up trials this weekend (which I will post pics later when I get home, I didnt have time to upload them this weekend) so, the MUA was talking how expensive things are and etc...then she was surprised that FI and I are paying for the wedding as it comes. We are not putting nothing on credit (so far). So I was thinking if I was the only one, because this is not the only time I've gotten this reaction from someone. She said she is still currently paying for her wedding, which was a year and a half ago!!  Will you be in BIG debt? or are you on the same boat as me? p.s. Happy Monday =)

We are also paying for it as it comes. We booked our higher priced vendors 1st so we can pay them off little by little with making cash payments. Hopefully when this is all said and over with there will be no debt on credit cards.

We were able to pay for everything as we went. We didn't put anything on credit and actually just paid the entire wedding in full on Saturday :)

A bit, but we have a schedule to pay it off. And we have a budget we're sticking to. It would be dumb to just charge whatever we want with the intention of paying it off "eventually" but at the same time it's really not my concern how other people choose to spend money.

Hi Ladies, For me my parents and my future in laws are splitting the big items straight down the middle, but my FI and I are paying for the other stuff and we vowed not to put anything on credit cards.  We did set our date 2 years out from when we got engaged though just so we knew we would have enough money to do this.  I think just putting everything on credit cards would lead to more stress once your married but that's just my opinion.

Good to know I'm not the only one, I was just curious if any of you have gotten same reactions with people. It's a good thing though. SMHubbard- I bet it felt great! kikikatie- That's awesome that you're getting help from your parents and fi's parents. =)

So far no debt - we have a set amount already saved and that should take care of it all.  I HOPE!

Right there with you Vans =D We are paying for it as it goes.. as it comes NOW. lol. In the begining of the planning, we both decided we will NOT use credit cards, or "Borrow" money from anyone. We have struggled a bit along the way, we we managed to splurge on a few things, and take out the ones we both decided early on we could go without. The only thing we have left to pay for is the Videographer, but he wants the last $$ on the day of =D Happy Monday Ladies

We saved for 17 months before our wedding. We lived on what DH makes and used the majority of my income for wedding savings which will now be our plan for our joint savings. We have completely paid off the wedding and with the help of our honeymoon fund we will pay off the remainder of our honeymoon activities this month. We did use our AmEx card to generate points but we made sure that the money was there to pay it off completely. We opened an ING account to also help build our savings with a good interest rate. It feels great to have everything paid off!!

Well FI and I had a long talk when we decided to set a date, he suggested getting a loan for the wedding, but I was totally opposed to it. I told him I wanted to pay for everything "CASH". I told him if we couldn't pay for it as it came then that meant we couldn't afford it is as simple as that! He agreed and said that was the smartest idea and well we wouldn't be debt after the wedding.Thankfully we have great MOMS :) They are helping us here and there , and also FI's family has been very generous and offered to help with some things but nothing too BIG which we are greatfull for. But yes we totally get the reaction from people too like your going to pay for everything yourself  WOW!

Same here Vans! I'm paying as I go. Actually, I set a budget and started saving like crazy. Once I had saved enought to pay for the wedding in full i started booking things. Most people are shocked that I'm paying for it on my own but I kinda like it this way. For some reason my grandma was really proud of me for paying for the wedding like I'm planning to do so she bought my wedding dress for me! yay

We also used credit cards to earn points, but paid them off each month so no interest was charged to us. I guess you could call me a saver. I graduated college with friends who owed over 200k. I didn't owe a dime. I like to plan ahead. Sorry, but if she's still paying a year and a half later, she never should have had such a shindig as she had.

I have some debt that is non-wedding related that is being paid off little by little. I had to use one of my credit cards two years ago to deal with an emergency unforeseen expense involving my car and since then I have slowly been paying it off.I did use my a different card to secure my gown, reception venue, etc.  Big ticket items were charged and paid for within the grace period.  The reason I opted to use my credit card was because of the percentage of cash back and if one of my vendors proves to be less than honest, my credit card company probably has an army of lawyers and a million ways to make that vendor be sorry about it.

We're in debt a year later and will be for awhile longer.  The debt is from the wedding and other emergency expenses (car breaking down on the honeymoon, our fridge breaking the week of the wedding, etc.).

Whoa I'm late on this one. Just got back from Vegas :)We're actually really lucky to have parents who are more than happy to contribute. I'm splitting the largest costs with my parents because I have a giant family. FI's parents are contributing a little bit, but his family is rather small. They are also gracious enough to gift us their timeshare for the honeymoon. The only thing we are charging are the wedding bands, but FI is like a credit nazi and pays off his balances so fast :)

We used credit cards to get points and incentives but paid them off every month. DH and I refuse to go into debt unless it's for school or a home.

the only thing that was charged (so far) was a portion of my ring. we are lucky enough to come from generous families who paid for all the deposits & the venue. we should be able to pay off all the balances ourselves.

I had to reschedule our wedding from Nov 6 th to April 30 2010. Due to we are paying for everything by cash no credit. We both paid off our credit cards and vowed not to go back into debt. Infact Im still waiting on my engagement ring since he is working and making payments. He says my ring is going to be worth the wait 2+ carats Yeach!!!!!!
