Are wedding programs absolutely necessary?

I've been trying to manage an ever ballooning budget so I am trying to find ways where I can trim the fat. Are wedding programs absolutely necessary to have?

No, especially if you're not having a long ceremony (like a full mass).

nothing is necessary, except two people getting married and somebody to perform the ceremony.  Oh, and a witness.

Not at all, but some people like them. If you REALLY want programs, I'd buy cardstock and print some yourself. Or order through vistaprint (with an email for free rack cards or brochures).

What goes on a program? Just a list of the events for the day/night?
