Cake/Bakeries in Los Angeles ASSISTANCE PLEASE!

Hello!

I accidently just posted this to the whole Knot community board rather than the local board, so if you read this twice, apologies.

We are getting married in Pasadena next August, 2011. I would love some reasonably priced cake/bakery reccomendations! I already know about Vanilla Bakeshop as we live in Santa Monica, but wanted to see if anyone had any lower priced suggestions with their similar style? We are also considering have a sheet cake brought out for the guests, but overall bakery suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I am also getting married in Pasadena (in a month), and tasted at several local bakeries. All 3 were tasty and reasonably priced. We didn't want a very fancy design, so I can't speak about that- but taste and price were our determining factors.

We decided to go with Takes the Cake on Colorado in Pasadena. The cake was the freshest and really flavorful. We are having chocolate cake with raspberry preserves and choco ganache, white cake with strawberries and cream cheese mousse, and chocolate cake with mocha mousse.

We also tasted at Cakery Bakery in La Canada and DeCroupet's in Arcadia. DeCoupet's would have been our second choice.

    Good luck!

The lowest cost bakeries we found were in chinatown in LA- there is a $100 delivery fee to outside locations but a cake to feed 150 is only $250- and they all do tastings and had really great reputations.  We ended up doing cheesecake from costco and a sheetcake from the local grocery store for our guests and had a $50 round cake for our cake cutting- we'll spend about $200 total on cakes and they all taste great!

We are using Kings Hawaiin Bakery in Torrance and found them to be reasonably priced and taste yummy! You can find their pricing on their website.

Torrance Bakery is a great place. I know they do tons of events and their frosting is amazing! It is worth checking out.

I like Torrance Bakery and Hansen's Bakery. Those are my top 2 choices.

I had a wonderful experience with Torrance Bakery's customer service and, as pp said, their cakes are yummy. The frosting, in particular, was the best that we tasted!

I went to a wedding last night and Torrance bakery did the cake. It was red velvet and oh my goodness, tasted just the best! There's also several places in Manhattan Beach like Becker's Bakery that make exceptionally delicious everything. I would definitely check those places out, I'm looking at having Beckers do my wedding cake!

We're getting married in Pasadena in October.  Cake tasting was so much fun!  We thought about DeCroupet's but ultimately went with Fantasy Frostings in South Pas.

I used DeCroupet's for my law school graduation party and they were awesome.  Great customer service, and the cake looked and tasted great (they made it shaped like a briefcase!).  The owners are just really  nice, good people that you'll feel good about working with.

For our wedding cake, we ended up going with Fantasy Frostings b/c the cakes weren't just good or even great, they were absolutely divine.  I would not say that the cakes at FF are a bargain, but our cake did end up being less expensive than some of the other cake shops that had shoddy looking cakes with fake flowers stuck on them and plastic spacers in between the tiers that looked like they came from a Ralph's supermarket circa 1980.  (Cough, see Cake Sensations in South Pas.)  The cake ended up being our one "over the top" splurge (and for the record, having 5 tiers was his idea, not mine).  We figured the expense is worth it b/c the cake will also double as a decoration.

Oh, and I've also heard great things about Porto's in Glendale and Patticakes in Altadena/Pasadena, but I can't say from personal experience.
