Are you working with a planner or mostly DIY

Hi,
I'm pretty new to the boards... I am finding the process of planning extremely overwhelming, so I broke down and finally started to talk to some planners. I was wondering what your experiences are with this and especially if anyone has found a good planner in the L.A. area...

I went through swing with wedding planners.
Once I got engaged I said "I want a planner. I need one."
Then I started using budgeting tools provided from different sites, as well as an organizer my mom got me and I said "I think we can do this without one. It'd also save some money! :D"
Now, we're hiring a planner haha. While I still think I can do it myself, I know that this will make the process easier.

You want to check out yelp for more recommendations on planners :)

So I love party planning and do it often, although it isnt my job. So I will do most myself, but I do plan on hiring a day of consultant because that day I want to just be free from responsibility.

We hired a planner but I ended up finding the venue and hiring all the vendors on my own.

I hired someone because I knew I was going to be too busy to plan my own wedding but when I actually got into it, I realized how picky I was about a lot of things.  I didn't like any of the recommendations from my own planner so I went ahead with my own choices of vendors and found myself much better deals.

But I am still happy with my planner as I know that she will execute everything along my specific vision/requirements. For me, it's kind of an insurance to fall back on if I ever get tired of it.
