Reception Locations

Hello! So we have our date, our rabbi and our ceremony location and the florist; however we are now thinking that we may want to do our reception at a place besides the temple. I have been contacting many venues; but a ton of places are booked for 10.10.10 and others charge astronomical minimums. Our wedding will be around 25-30 people. Yes, we decided to invite a few more because we'd like some dancing involved. Our ceremony starts at 2pm and we are okay to move that to Noon if it means an afternoon reception; but seriously, a $10k minimum for 25 people seems very steep. Looking for ideas, thoughts...aka creative solutions. Thanks in advance!

If I'd had a small wedding like that I'd have looked for nice homes I could rent for the wedding, like on VRBO.com, but if you are wanting dancing then you might have to consider that there would be neighbors and noise levels to deal with.  How about restaurants?

How do you feel about having your reception at a friend's house?  Those can work out beautifully with the right catering company and DJ.
