CAKE COST?

I know a lot of things come to play when it comes to pricing for a wedding cake flavor, how many tiers, filling, fondant...design? I'm aware...but last night talking about budget with FI he said well lets set aside $500 for a cake! GIrls my mouth droppedSurprised I could NOT believe it

Does a wedding cake actually cost that? FI said if we show them the cakes we have in mind (Alice in Wonderland design) he said easily...NO DOUBT! I guess I'm shocked...stunned! I'm wondering if we are low balling or high?

Is he right? Maybe some girls could share some details with me....

TIA!

My cake (simple 3 layer with a faux layer) for 80 people would have cost us about that much and there wasn't much of a design to it.  Talk to bakers and see what they say.

Remember, put "wedding" in front of anything and the price jacks right on up!

Try phoenix bakery and portos, they're less expensive than other places if you want to go for a more simple design.  From what I've heard they're cakes are pretty good, but I haven't gone cake tasting yet so I don't have first hand knowledge.

I agree with jagore...I'm not sure how much cakes are because mine was included, but I did add fondant on a 4 layer cake and it was $135 extra out of my pocket.  I think your vision of the Alice in Wonderland cake will be easily over $700. But who knows, you would need to make some calls.  My cousins 16th bday cake was $1000 for something very similar to this one...

I just googled one that looks a like...

    WOW!!! I can't believe it! $1000 Surprised

Well the cake is also included at the Odyssey so we expected to pay a portion as well. I just need to call before I have a heart attack hehehe

Yeah, mine will be $5-$6 per slice, which will be about $400. I also budgeted $500 for cake.

Cakes totally cost that.  Mine was $4.25 per slice.
And of course, when they brought up that we could pay an additional $10 total to have lustre dust sprinkles on top, I was in :)

IMO, setting a good solid budget for wedding cake is totally worth it.  I loved my cake.

Ours cost over $1000.  We got it early in the planning process and it turned out to be a splurge.  What really brought the cost up was the different flavorings on each tier, and that I absolutely had to have rasberries, blackberries and strawberries on top of each tier.  But since we paid for it last May, and I did so much DIY, it took the sting out of the price.

I just booked my cake on tuesday and I got an amazing price!  We are doing a 3 tier custom design buttercream with different flavors for each tier. serves 120 including delivery out the door $270!!!!  It's a little hole in the wall bakery but his stuff is amazing and FI's family has been using him for years.

Tillea- if my memory serves me right you went with Helena Wirth right? We made an appt with La Creme Bakery for this Saturday. We will see how it goes...FI is a bit disturbed by them since we know we want red velvet, they are going to charge us $2 per serving to try it.  Now we are a potential client that may be bringing a good amount of $ and you want to charge us $2 to taste your cream cheese filling.... hmmmmmUndecided

I guess since the Odyssey only gives you these 2 bakers, beggars can't be choosers! FI was like you better have some freakin' outstanding frosting. As for Helena Wirth I tried calling multiple times yesterday but no answer. I hope I can get a hold of them today!

LNC0185- WOW!!!! that is an amazing deal with all the other prices thrown my way. GOOD JOB!Wink Where is this baker located?

We're doing King's Hawaiian for our cake. The cake was not a big deal to us but did want something that looked nice and tasted good. They actually have great flavor options but may not be the place for an ellaborate design. We're doing 3 cakes, 1 6 x 9" 2 tier, 1 8" square and 1 8" round, all together feeds, 94 people, came out to $197. Non-dairy whipped cream topping with ribbon and beading. Once you add fondant or flowers, there goes the price. Flavors were pretty amazing though! Chocolate chiffon with raspberry preserves, vanilla chiffon with strawberry preserves and Hawiian Paradise (lime, guava and passionfruit).

I am using Cakery Bakery in La Canada. My cake is for 80 people. It is three tiers with a little bit of fondant and it is $480 which is pretty resonable. Cakes aren't so cheap when you add detail and multiple layers.

This is totally unrealtes and I must be blind but how do you atart a new post topic? I always could find the link in the past, I mucst be blind. Well if anyone knows why I am suddenly not finding this please let me knoe. Thanks!

The Bakery is the name of the bakery (how original) :)  It's off Laurel Canyon in the same parking lot as Kohl's.

we are going with portos...even tho its a bit more "LA" the price was right...for us! we are not doing the whole actual wedding cake, but rather a full sheet in the back and doing the fake cake thing! sounds cheap and taky, but i'd much rather enjoy the taste than the design.

I am getting mine from VAN BAKERY.  They have multiple locations.  I just found the cake design I wanted and took the photo to them.  3-Layer cake with decorations for $150.  Not bad.  It's plenty for 100 people.
