DIY or Not?!?

I got married last August and I have to admit that there were times when DIY projects were stressful.  In the end we saved a lot of money.  I learned to have fun with them.

I am a returning Knottie for my best friend.  She is getting married in August of this year.  At first my BF was like ok maybe but when she started she realized the benefits.  She went to Downtown LA and found a dress similar to one she saw at Alfred Angelos for $70 bux.  All the money she is saving, my OP I told her that she can put towards her bungalow in Tahiti.

Does anybody like DIY or is it just me?

Alot of wedding products are overpriced.  And in instances where you know how to put stuff together it pays to get a unique item that is better than something you would have bought that is mass produced and poor quality.

That said, sometimes DIY can also be more expensive because you have a higher learning curve and you have to include mock ups and prototypes into the cost of materials, especially if you are doing things for the first time.

For me, DIY was a case by case basis:  factoring in the time vs the money vs the quality of the item I was getting out of it too.

If I were crafty I'd love it but I am not crafty.

I can DIY anything with a mail merge, and I'm basically DIYing my DOC duties because that's what I want to be when I grow up (or get get back from my honeymoon), but I just can't do my own florals or decorations.  I had to hire peeps for that.

I agree with the other girls...you need to think long and hard before you DIY--it can end up costing just as much money sometimes and unless you enjoy DIYing stuff then it is a pain!!!  What  am I DIYing?  Just the invitation design then I am taking the image to the printe--no way am I dealing with paper jams!

One more thing to consider when you are doing DIY stuff.  Make certain you have the space and mental constitution to deal with clutter.  All your projects start taking up space very quickly when you are working.

This last month I couldn't take it anymore and ended up putting it in storage--it was either a storage bill or a therapist bill.  Storage was cheaper.
