California-Los Angeles

Looking for some local opinions for our trip to Cali :)

So we have been planning out our Cali coastal road trip and here are some of our plans/questions:
Fly into San Fran and drive right to Napa/Sonoma - spend 3 nights there
Can you fly into Lake Tahoe? I can't figure out if the airport there is a major airport or not.
Drive to San Fran - spend two nights - parks and city sightseeing
What's in Half Moon Bay worth seeing?  Pescadero State Beach?
We will go to both Santa Cruz and Monterey but which one is better to stay over in? or does it matter?
Is Carmel just a quick stop?
Any specific tips on what to be sure to see/do in Big Sur?
Better place to stay over?  San Luis Obispo or Paso Robles?
Any specific tips on what to be sure to see/do in Santa Barbara?
What's in Dana Point?
Thanks!!

Wow...you are doing the coastline at its best.
    Napa--wonderful

Tahoe is not a major airport--most people fly into Reno, NV.

San Francisco is wonderful. Be sure to go to Little Italy and Chinatown (day time for Chinatown--night time for Little Italy and North Beach).

Santa Cruz and Montery are both great--I would stay in Santa Cruz if you are a hippie and Monterey if you are a yuppie.

Big Sur is so nice--not much to do but look at the trees, steams, and ocean.  Eat at Nepenthe Restaurant at sunset.

San Luis Obispo is a cute college town.  Paso Robles inland and is a wine town.  Go to the crazy Madonna Inn in San Luis.

Santa Barbara walk on State Street and go into all the boutique stores you can even visit the Catholic Mission built by the Spanish in the 1700s.

Dana Point is a very pretty beach in Orange County.  There is more to do in Laguna Beach.  If you are coming in the summer, go to the Sawdust Festival of Arts in Laguana...drink wine and look at art outdoors :)

I used to live near Tahoe and if there's a airport up there its a podunk little thing.  The airport is the Reno/Tahoe airport and it's located in Reno.  It'll take you about an hour to drive to Tahoe from there.  As for the rest, I have no info.  Have fun!
