Money Dance?

Hi ladies,

I was just wondering how you all felt about the money dance. I've seen responses to this question in other boards, and the recommendation is to check with your local board. I'm not a big fan, and FI said he didn't care if we didn't do it... UNTIL... his father made a comment that we aren't doing the bouquet or garter toss AND no money dance. Our guest list consists of close family &r friends (50-60 ppl), and most are not single so I don't see the point in garter & bouquet toss. Since FI and I are paying for the wedding I think what we say should go. What do you ladies think?
Anniversary

I think that guests should never have to pull out their wallet at a wedding.  I also didn't have a bouquet toss, garter toss, or a money dance and I don't think anyone even noticed.  If you feel like you want to do something then have an anniversary dance and the couple that is married the longest gets the "toss bouquet" and they offer up a few words of advice on how to keep a marriage strong.

    My vote is no.
There are very few cultures that do this, and I'm really not a fan of it at all.

We went to a wedding a few months ago where no one was paying to dance with the bride and groom, so the best man had the nerve to come over to our table and tell us we should go up there.  We took time off work to come, paid for a gift, gas, our DRINKS because they didn't have an open bar, and then they wanted more money from us.  Epic fail, two thumbs way down, do not pass go.

That had to be really embarrassing for the B&G.

I would be, but I think they were too high on love to notice.  <div>
</div><div>To make matters worse, the DJ kept going with the whole money dance theme and there must have been at least 3 songs for it...</div><div>
</div><div>We left at 9:45 and the dance floor still hadn't been opened up.</div>

NO, don't do it.  The last wedding that I went to that had a money dance was embarrassing for all.

Thanks ladies. I don't want to do it... now I just gotta get FI on board.

Wow, I'm still amazed that it went so badly for that couple. Embarassing!

We did not do tosses or a money dance. In your case, I'd skip it. My husband has seen it done before, but my family has never done it, and I think they might be horrified by it! So we skipped it. I had exactly one person mention they notice we didn't do tosses. No one said anything about the money dance.

Tell him the story of the couple no one would dance with.  That should do it.

I've also heard stories about people making, like $18. That's kind of embarassing.

    One word - TACKY
  • edited December 2011
I guess I'm the only "tacky" one here. I'm doing it and all the weddings I've been to, the money dance has been a great success. It's seen as the norm in my family I guess.
