Suit vs Tux

So FI went to Men's Wearhouse started asking questions getting informed. For some reason he was NOT really feeling a TUX, but the guy was totally trying to sell him on that. Anyways...what did your guys pick tux or suit? And did they buy or rent?

I'm just being curious...at the end it's reall FI's choice with whatever he picksLaughing

There are tuxes that just look like nice black suits and suits that look like tuxes.   I think it all depends on how formal your wedding is - but I gotta say, the tuxes look reaaaallly nice.

But I did have a really HORRIBLE experience with Men's Wearhouse and would be remiss if I didn't recommend you to check out other places also.  Two days before my wedding, the groom STILL didn't have his tux and the folks at the Northridge location were soooooo rude!  It was totally unnecessary stress and I swore to them that they'd pissed off the wrong bride 'cause I'd tell everybody I know!

So just doing what I said I'd do :)

Yup I clearly remember that and I did tell FI that he only walked in to ask questions he said he wouldn't give them any business Wink

    Then I am vindicated!  WOOHOO!!!

By the way, since the wedding, hubby has gone suit crazy.  He bought two before the wedding and he just went and bough three more at Jos A Banks when they had their buy one get two free sale.  Now he's lookin' all dapper all the time.  Wooot!

DH rented  the tuxes that look more like suits.  They had regular ties instead of bowties, etc.  They looked amazing!  He did end up going with MW.  It was pretty good.  Of course he chose the most expensive one!  Anyway, they also came pretty close to the wedding before everyone's fit right, but they told us that would be the case & assured us they could do any adjustments in time.

Also, you know how they give 1 free one after buying 5 or whatever the number is, well DH chose for his dad to have the free one and somehow they mixed it up and made my dad's free.  After the inquiry, they ended up giving both dads free ones!  Whoo hoo!  That was an added bonus.  Oh & all the gals at the Burbank MW were great with us.  I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience, Phiaska.  Unfortunately, not all employees are wonderful.

We went with suits because FI hates the look of a tux and our wedding is not formal.

FI and groomsmen bought suits on overstock.com, which I would really recommend!

We bought Joseph Abboud gray suits for $160 each....the same exact suit is for sale at MW for over $500!

The only tricky thing is they have limited sizes available, etc, so we reallty had to search to find one that worked for all the guys. But it was worth it!

For only a little  more than the cost of renting a nice tux, they now have suits to keep. We are giving them their ties, and they are wearing their own white dress shirts and black shoes.

We did black suits.  If the guys already owned one (which most did) they could wear what they already had and if not they rented for about $150 (which included shoes and all).

DH wanted a reallly fitted (think European/red carpet style) suit, so our only option was to buy.  We got a gorgeous gray suit by Theory at Bloomingdales.  We figured if I got to splurge on the dress, why shouldn't he get to splurge on his suit?  Plus, now he has something he'll actually wear again!  For the GM, we rented black suits with black ties at Friar Tux.  We had a really good experience there.  Even though a couple suits didn't fit right when the guys picked them up, Friar Tux had the right stuff in the next day, still two days before the wedding, so no big deal.  Plus, when you rented six the seventh one was free.

FI is going to go with a tux. Although I must agree the suits look fairly similar to the tuxes - no bow tie.  But FI is also geting a free suit because he can always use a new suit with City Council meetings.

He's renting a tux, but definitely not through Men's Warehouse.

We were very pleased with DH's experience with Men's Wearhouse.  Like PP said, each store is very different (for instance, everyone on here raves about Pebbles, and my experience was so bad that I would never recommend going there...).  We used a shop in ventura county, and the workers there were amazing.  Here's a pic of DH's tux.  The guys wore the pinstripe, and I'm so glad that DH pushed for it!  Sorry so big, but I didn't know if you could see it when it was small...
