Candy Bar?

I'm thinking I'd like to add a Candy Bar. Is anyone else doing it?
Did you hire someone or DIY?  if you DIY...you have to rent a table and still end up with a bunch of useless jars.

    Just DIY!

I went to Michaels and got a lot of various glass jars, apothecary ones, etc- then some scoops and some cute little bags for people to take home.  I am just going to do one table and a few spots on the bar.

Also look into getting jars from Goodwill.  You can find some interesting things there for cheap.

If you're left with a bunch of jars, you can always donate them, sell them, or use them! Vases, decoration, storage of jam!! Haha :D

We're doing our own. My fiance's cousin just got married a couple fo weeks ago so I'm borrowing her jars and purchasing any others I need at garage sales or any other inexpensive places. I orders white chinese take out boxes and decorated them with a simple monogram label and they look adorable. Got them at papermart.com....the cheapest I found them. They're located in orange so if you pick up, there is no shipping cost.

DIY candy bar is the way to go! Michael's is having a sale right now for the smaller ones ($1.99) and when you keep buying from them you'll keep getting 40% coupons to use towards the next purchase (more jars!), but I'm sure you can find them at swap meets, garage sales, or other brides who recently got married ;) Or, if you want to go rustic, I'm sure you can use Jam jars, and any other jars. When you're done, you can always use them as home decor or sell them as a lot to fellow bride-to-bes. As for candy, you might want to try getting them from http://www.candywarehouse.com/. They're the cheapest I've seen so far, and they're available for pick up (at El Segundo) if you want to avoid shipping.

I am totally pushing to do my own candy bar, and hoping the hotel manager is okay with it... hopefully this helps :)

    I DIY'ed our candy buffet

and it was a TOTAL success! I just told our venue I was planning on setting up a candy buffet they knew the exactly what table to put out and then our DOC set it up for us.

Since I was going with a red candy buffet I got the candy after Valentine's Day and stored in a nice cool place....

    here are some pics:

I DIY'ed everything to the signs to the labels on the box so its totally feasible! HTH!!!Laughing

One thing to consider: age group of your guests.  If you have alot of guests over the age of 50, chances are your candy bar won't be attacked as much.

Our candy bar was a great success--mostly because my FMIL at the time had a reputation of bringing stuff to church(most of our guests were from our church) and the vast majority of it was goodies she'd hand out at Christmas(homemade candy).  The other stuff was a combination of our favorite storebought candy, along with cute stuff I found on sale after valentines day.  Take advantage of valentines day stuff before your wedding, especially if you can get it on clearance.

Be really careful if you have chocolate in your candy bar however.  I was very dissapointed when our DOC couldn't take it over to our venue as requested, because the candy would stay in a car that was in the sun.  The Odyssey, our venue, saved the day the day of the wedding letting my DH and my then FMIL take it over and set it up the morning of.

Ohe thing I can tell you is a big hit with kids, if you choose to have them at your wedding: Ring Pops--the kids love them!

Goodwill again is a good idea for containers.  Also search the weddingbee.com classifieds for brides willing to part with their containers.

Consignment shops are also a good place to look for glassware as is Homegoods.

For chinese take out boxes Smart and Final is the place to go!

I am doing my own candy bar. I actually went to Cost Plus and got a few jars there when they were closing down, and got a bunch downtown for about $4 each. They are all good sizes too. As for the candy, I am ordering from the Candy Warehouse online. They give you a bulk discount and you can pick them up to save on shipping.
