Bagpipes for wedding ceremony

I was set on using bagpipes at our ceremony - but then my mom was talking with her friend about it ... and she cringed!  She said bagpipes are for funerals. What is your opinion on this? Thanks in advance for your input.

we are having two pipers pipe us out of the church and play some songs when we are outside.  Two of my cousins are pipers though...so its kind of big in my family.  I think they are really cool at weddings...just depends on what songs they play.  Mairi's WEdding is a good choice!

A friend of ours pipes, so he offered his services to us.  It's a preference and a family tradition in my case.  Bagpipes can be for either a happy or somber occasion.  We had bagpipes lead my high school graduation walk...and that was a celebration.

I've seen it and I loved it!  Maybe it was the part of me that's Scottish but I really got a kick out of it!  :-)Some people will like it and others won't.  You can't please everyone so if it makes you happy, do it.

We're having a bagpiper at our wedding. :)  Just be sure to have happy songs and you'll be fine. ;)

I think it would be great! Agreed - it all depends on song choice!

Thanks everyone - I have to keep reminding myself that I will never make everyone happy ... do what makes us happy!!

My best friend is getting married October 2010 and is planning a scottish wedding.  So we will obviously be getting bagpipes.....so since we're on this topic....can anyone recommend one?  The wedding will be at squires castle on the east side if that matters.  Thanks!
