DIY Makeup

I don't think I want to spend the money on having someone do my make up and am thinking about doing it myself.  I am currently using mineral makeup and really only use foundation and mascara.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what makeup seems to work best, will last through the day and where I can go where they will actually show me and help me learn the steps so I don't end up looking like a clown on the big day? :)  Thanks!!

When I go to formal events or get dressed up, I love using MAC makeup. Day-to-day I use Clinque, but MAC seems to have the more dramatic effect!

Don't use mineral makeup in your wedding pics- it can make your face look blurry or shiny due to the titanium dioxide and I'm sure that after you spend thousands of tollars on your wedding pics you don't want a blurry face!  I recommend using Makeup Forever HD foundation and the HD microfinish powder- it is a silica based powder so it will absorb any oil and it has light reflecting particles in it which help make your skin look more radiant in photographs!  If you apply the foundation with a stipple brush, you will get an airbrush finish, and it looks beautiful.  Make an appointment at Sephora and have one of the MUA's show you how to apply the makeup and color match you for the correct foundation shade.

Oh and if you schedule a time with the makeup ladies at a department store, they can give you tips on the best ways to apply, what to wear, etc. HTH

My makeup lady was only $40 and it was the best money spent on my wedding. I don't even know how to put makeup on (seriously I don't) and she made me look natural but I didn't end up washed on it my pictures (like I would have been without makeup).Everyone says bare minerals is the worse makeup to use when you are going to have pictures taken.

Do you have the contact info for the person who did yours for $40?  Did she come to your home to do it or did you go to a salon?

I'd also be interested in her contact info!  I wear very little makeup and am worried about doing it myself. :)

I would suggest going to Sephora and having someone do make up for you, they will do it for free and find the best products for you. I use mostly Smashbox products....I recomend the Smashbox Photo Finish primer and the high Definition foundation...and the Smashbox Halo powder if you want to go all out (its like $60 but soooo worth it) those three products will make your face look flawless!! Also I like to use Too Faced shadow primer...keps eye shadow from creasing and stays put all day.

The Smashbox Halo also has the titanium dioxide... unfortunately it is in almost all mineral powders.  It probably is great for everyday use but is not suggested for photography.

i would look into marykay.  my mary kay lady, marilyn koci, came out to do everyone's makeup for the wedding free of charge :) and their mineral products are fantastic!  i loved my wedding day makeup and the fact that it was free!

i'm doing my own, and i plan on using MAC makeup. i absolutely love it. i use studio fix on my face and everyone says how flawless it looks. also, i HIGHLY recommend a primer for your eyelids. this will keep the eye makeup on all night, and you wont get that "crease" where your eyelid is ;)
