Reconcling my two sides

So being a newly engaged lady is full of excitement but also dread.

I am trying to reconcile my practical/ pragmatic side with my romantic side. My fiance and I are try to do a budget wedding because we want to buy a house this year.

We really want an outdoor ceremony site if at all possible but the problem is trying to find one for a reasonable price. My fiance says he would like to spend only $5K on the wedding and I just don't think its even possible to find a site for that cheap
My pragmatic side says we are quite handy and can do a wedding for super cheap if we do a lot of DIY. However my romantic side says why can't we just spend a little money and have a nice wedding where I don't have to run around like a chicken with my head cut off and also that won't look cheap.I think we can pull off a nice wedding for $10K without me going crazy.

Any one have any suggestions of nice cheap outdoor locations to get married?

I totally understand being torn over the budget.  I think brides with $60,000 budgets even feel this way sometimes. If you are trying to keep your wedding under $10,000 there are a few major things to consider--1. cut the guest list down to less than 80 pp 2. Maybe you want to just serve cake and coffee instead of a full meal. 3. Use an Ipod instead of a dj. 4. Have your wedding at a restaurant so you don't have to rent anything. 5. Have a day or morning wedding.

The least expensive places I know for an outdoor wedding are: The Queen Mary and The Reef in Long Beach.

I know some brides on the board are using clubhouses or alumni houses that are not that expensive.

    GOOD LUCK!!

I had a kind of ah ha thought this afternoon on my way to the gym, I live in a town that has some pretty big estates, my mother and I are on quite friendly terms with the woman who owns a home (her daughter and I were in girl scouts together) I am going to inquire if she would rent me her large lawn for the wedding. Its at least worth the phone call. Yeah it will mean more work for me cuz I will have to arrange a caterer and tables and linens and stuff but it might be worth it.

I agree with lala90! Try to cut the guest list to as little as possible. Also most venues have cheaper rates for Friday or Sunday weddings. If you know some one with a nice home\yard you could also have your wedding there. If you are having a church ceremony most of them will let you use their church hall or banquet room for free. You can also cut the cost by serving just appetizers and finger food instead of a big meal. HTH & GL!

Check out LA Parks and Rec. You can't have alcohol in a public park AFAIK, but hey, that also cuts down the budget. And some areas are very pretty.

FWIW, my budget has gone up since I've been planning. I have trouble sticking to budgets, though. So it's possible if you aim for 10k, before you know it your expenses will be 12k...

Like other ladies said, a lunch/brunch reception is a great idea, or a non-meal time with just desserts or appetizers. Good luck!
