Calligraphy

Anyone know anyone who does calligraphy, even if it is just a friend? I think the idea sounds nice, but honestly I can print just fine if it is expensive.

I didn't vote b/c none of your options applied.  I printed directly onto all of my envelopes.  I think there may be a pic in my bio.

Check etsy.  Pretty Pen Jen I believe used to be one of the neat sellers for this.

    It can be pricey though.

    Hi Sarah,

I haven't sent out my invites yet, but I'm planning on using a label for the return address, and handwriting the invites myself.

I used this calligrapher and got lots of compliments on my envelopes. I had the return address and RSVP address pre-printed by the stationery company, though.

MsMery's invites looked really good.  You should definitely check out her rec.

I used Calligraphy Katrina, she is based in Pasadena but can also meet you elsewhere. She was AMAZING.

Our envelopes were incredible- she even matched the blue ink to our wedding colors. The #1 thing we got complimented on was probably our calligraphy! And her prices are completely reasonable. I only had her to the guest address- our return address was printed onto the envelopes already.

Not only was her final product beautiful, but she was so flexible and easy to work with. I had to add a few more addresses in at the last minute, and she did them on the spot for me. She asks for extra envelopes in case of a mistake, but she didn't use any of them and there were no mistakes.

    Thanks jagore!

I will say that calligraphy rocks and I don't think it's as expensive as some people think it will be, but it will be $1-$2 per envelope, so if you have 200 invites, it adds up. We spent about $100 on it for 68 invitations. I also had her do my escort cards and those were only about $25 or so. But if you can't do it, it's totally not necessary.

However, it's best to write neatly on the envelopes if you don't do calligraphy (some people even print lightly on the envelopes then trace) or to run them through the printer with a pretty font. Don't use the white Avery labels on your nice wedding invitations!

Calligraphy sounds great...or you could send your addresses to the person making your invitations and have them print them on the envelopes.  I bought...for $25...a stamp with my and FI name and our address to stamp on all the RSVP cards...no calligraphy needed!

I wanted to hire a calligrapher, but the more I thought about it the less important it seemed.  Don't get me wrong, I think its a really nice touch and makes your invites look very elegant, but I just kept reminding myself that people throw the invitations and envelopes away.  With that in mind I didn't get too stressed about them.  I also looked into taking classes so I could learn how to do calligraphy myself but couldn't find any outlets for that.  (If anybody knows someone that teaches calligraphy please let me know - I'd still like to learn!)

We ended up using clear labels with a pretty font and they looked really nice.  (I'm pretty sure it was Lucida Calligraphy.)  If you decide to go this route please make sure to get the clear labels - as MsMeryMac said, the white ones don't look that nice.
