Alterations for a dress?

Hi everyone!

I live in LA and am getting married in Pittsburgh this fall.  I need to have a bustle added to my gown, and wanted to find out who you recommend as a tailor.

I live near Robertson and 3rd, and Mina is very close to me.  She has a lot of great reviews, but some awful ones as well, so wsnted to find out if anyone has any experience with her.

TIA!

The seamstress I used was Galina Borin. Her shop is roughly on the corner of Fairfax and Wilshire Blvd.  She bustled my gown and shrunk it down from a size 10 to a 2.  If you're gown is a difficult material, she won't flinch.  Her number is (323) 993-8620.

Reene might be a little too far from you (Woodland Hills) but she is awesome and a lot of ladies on here use her.  I don't have her number anymore but you can find her on Project Wedding under Reene in Stitches.

    Hi Tia!

I went to Patty Sanchez.  She's located on Wilshire and Cochran, so she's pretty close by to you. She's amazing!!!  The great thing about her is that she used to own a bridal shop called Monaco Couture in Los Angeles (www.projectwedding.com/vendor/show/monaco-couture-mni-bridal-inc), but she had to close it because of the state of the economy.  Anyways, she used to design and sew all the dresses, so she's not only a great seamstress, she's a great designer too.  Her prices are extremely reasonable and she's incredibly easy to work with.  She works from home, so she's able to keep her prices low, but of course the quality and talent stays the same :-)

    Here's her contact info:

Tell her Rica recommended you.  Good luck!

hi. i too am looking for someone. have you decided upon anyone yet?

i contacted mina this morning as the bridal shop that i purchased my dress from did the "alterations".  all they did was grab fabric from both sides, pulled them in and sewed them together to make it smaller. but it looks horrible.  i asked them to undo what they've done so i can just go to a professional alterations person.  i told mina about it and they said they wouldn't work with an already altered gown despite the fact that i said it is being undone. and they suggested i look for a sample gown. oh, my wedding is in a week btw. so yeah...anyway, sorry for the long story but if you have gone to someone already, it would be great if you could let me know who and your experience.

    thanks!

If you're looking for a sample gown, it might even be better to bring the seamstress you trust with you while shopping.  I'm serious.  Galina told me she went with one of her girls to a bridal shop with a salesperson that was trying to push a sample that would have cost more to alter than it would to buy the dress.

I'm going to Violetta Couture at 313 S. Robertson, very close to you.  Violetta is nice, doesn't talk much, but has really taken care to make sure the length is correct.  She tried several different bustle styles on my dress until she came up with one that will continue its sleek lines and really fits with the style.  I haven't seen it yet (my next fitting is in two weeks) but she's been very professional and has done a great job so far.
