Hello, My name is crystal, I am not Puerto Rican but Colombiana y Mexicana. My wedding is taking place in Puerto Rico in October of 2010. Where is your ceremony and reception taking place?

Hi Liz.  I'm Rachel.  Nice to meet you too.  Where does your family live in NJ?  I live in South Jersey. Meeting online seems to be a very common thing today.  It used to be taboo...not anymore.  You seem happy, and I wish you the best.I would never be able to tell that you need to work on your English, you write perfectly.  But, I'm sure your FI loves the way you talks in English or Spanish.I can probably talk more than you, so don't worry, you didn't bore me...ha ha.

I checked out your bio.  I LOVE your boarding pass invites.  They are so cute!  You seem very creative, and I know your wedding will be beautiful.  Getting married on an island allows you to do so many different things...like have your guys wear flip flops.  I told my FI to wear them, and he looked at me like I was nuts.  I see you;re doing the candy bar.  I was thinking about doing it too, but was wondering how much time and money you have to spend.

Belquis - that is a nice place to have your wedding.  One time that I went back to PR for vacation I went there and toured El Castillo Serralles.  No sabia que lo alquilaban para fiestas.

bembis- That is nice! I have a Colombian friend and I love how she talks, so cute lol. Our wedding will be in the Hotel Condado Plaza (the ceremony in the garden right next to the ocean and the reception in one of their halls) Its very pretty there... If you need help let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you!! Take care

myspacelove- I am back lol I was w/o internet for a while and almost died haha! Thanks, I also wish you the best! Oh and idk exactly where they live, I've visited them so many times but never pay attention to other details plus I have a bad memory lol. Few of them live in Bronx yeah I guess, and the others idk. About the candy bar we will only have around 60ish guests, so it wont be really expensive at all. What we are doing is buying the candies and we wont buy the vases (we will just talk to my family in PR and ask them to bring every crystal vase that they have and just in case if I needed another one, I will just run to the store really quick and save all that money. ) How many guests you'll have?

belquis- Castillo Serrallez (however you write it lol) wow that would be BEAUTIFUL!!! I also didnt knew you could rent it. I've seen some weddings in historical places but not that one. I'd always wanted to get married right next to the beach, so we will have our wedding in The Hotel Condado Plaza :) yay!

MsSunshine- Nice to meet you! I saw your bio and I love your wedding plans!!! I have to say when I saw the pic of the 1st cake I had a "mini-heart-attack" lol jk I almost changed my mind and wanted something like that haha! But we already ordered our cake! Where are you going to buy your cake topper? I've seen crazy prices out there and if you want to DIY I can tell you few websites I found with good prices! Like Crafty Eddie he sells the "letter" for $14 including S&Handling.... and you'll have to buy the crystals and what not.
  • edited December 2011
Hey Liz, I'm planning on ordering my cake topper from Crafty Eddie. I'll just buy the crystals from rhinestoneshop.com or Dreamtime Creations.com. If you know of any sites that sell the crystals cheaper, I'll be forever grateful!

Hi Liz, Thank you...I will post pictures of my wedding.  I hope that you do the same. I was looking at your bio and everything looks great.  Si yo hubiera tenido la boda en Puerto Rico, me hubiera gustado that my husband and the guys wear a Guayabera.  But I am having the wedding in NJ in December and is going to be cold.  Felicidades and good luck.  PS:  Thank you for starting this thread, it is good to talk to other Puerto Rican brides.

Hi Liz, That's a good idea with asking your family to borrow their crystals.  I'll consider asking my mom and grandma. We're having about 50 people, so I am in the same boat as you.

Hello! MsSunshine- Thats nice! I bought my swarovskies from artbeads.com Ive never heard about those websites before, but I did a little research and artbeads have pretty good prices and FREE shipping (even if your order is $1 lol). I ordered 100- 9ss 230- 12ss and paid $14.50 FI says I'll need to get more crystals.. we will see.

drod- Hola chica! Si, seguro que pondre fotos de la boda! Oye, eso de las guayaberas is a good idea! But I guess is to late lol they already ordered their outfit. Tu te imaginas your boys wearing guayaberas in Diciembre jajajaja, pobresitos, se mueren del frio! Mi tia se caso en Manhattan it was in 2006 (october) and all of our family from PR traveled there. Todos teniamos trajes cortos y strapples etc.... you know bien bonitos...for us it was FREEZING by that time... We ended up wearing our dresses with jeans, abrigos, de todo para no tener frio jaja... (in our way to the Local solamente) I just laugh everytime I think about it bc we wanted to be bien cool in cold weather and we just ended up looking retarded!! lol Yeah I am also happy to meet other girls here, yall are so nice! Thanks!

Hello Rachel!! Yeah you'll see its a good Idea, you can save that lil extra money... bc I've noticed that after the wedding is over they end up having 100 of empty vases taking space in the house lol.. We signed the contract for 50 ppl and mom is going crazy bc I didnt invited some of our family. I am not doing it to be mean, its just that we have a HUGE family and some are not close to me... So I decided to only invite the closest ones... She is willing to pay the extra money lol that way theres "no war" with the famly.... so we ended up agreeing (she's also helping us with other expenses!) Not bad. Take care~

Hey Liz, Funny that you shared that story of inviting all your family.  My story is exactly identical, so I know how you feel.  When we first started planning, I only wanted a small number of people.  I have a pain condition (Fibromyalgia), which doesn't allow me to work, so we are on one income.  Plus, the more people you have, the more time you spend saying hello to everyone, so the more I would be on my feet and the more pain would develop in my body. When I told my mom I was only inviting my immediate family, grandparents, and 3 close friends, she hit the roof.  "What do you mean you're not inviting my sisters and your 20 thousand first cousins?" she exclaimed.  She was the same as your mom.  She offered to pay for everyone to come, but I told her money wasn't the only issue.  She also didn't realize that if we all invite all of my family, I have to allow my fiance to do the same, and his family triples ours.  So, my 30 person wedding would turn into 300 plus....NO WAY!!!  In the end, I decided to invite my family who personally know both my fiance and I and is aware of my medical condition.  I have a big portion of my first cousins cut off the list, no second cousins, and no great aunts or great uncles either.  I worry too about offeding people, and I know my mom is freaking out if she has to explain why so and so wasn't invited.  But from what I hear, you offend people no matter what you do even if you invite everyone, someone will always have a complaint...you sat them too far from the dance floor, you didn't spend enough time with them, you didn't give them a date, etc.  I look at it this way.  If you don't know my name or my fiance's name, you shouldn't be invited because that means you don't even know us.My fiance decided that to avoid problems, so he chose not invite any of his extended family.  His list consists of immediate family, Abuela, and close friends.  He said that way there would be no hurt feelings in the family because no one was included.  I don't know...people will talk.I am currently now struggling with my friends.  I want to just include my closest friends, but wonder if I should include some of my distant ones who have been truely genuine to me....we're just not close.  But once you let one person on the list, you start to let others as well.I know I'm babbling.  This has been an ongoing issue since day one of our planning.

Hola a todas! I am also from PR and getting married in August or Sept 2010 ( to be determined depending on the venue or should I say when I finally find a venue) I live in Glasgow, Scotland with my fiancee he is Irish. We decided since we are probably going to end up living in Europe we should get married in my home country and share this with my friends and family. His immediate family will be joining us and we are hoping for a 75-80 guest list. We are really really trying to have a budget wedding, we want a beach/outdoor ceremony and straight after the reception so we are looking for a venue that can provide that, so we won't have to make the guests travel from location to location. The more I try to plan this the more I think that budget wedding and PR are not synonyms!! Do any of you have any ideas of nice venues that I could check out?Thanx-S

Rachel- Hello! I totaly understand you. About my friends I am only inviting 3- My bestfriend (MOH), my other bff from highschool and the mother of my Godson. I am keeping it simple with friends, I do know a lot of people but we are not really close.... and if they get offended their bad. The more people the more tables, and expenses lol. My FI's family lives all over the US and Thailand (his uncles moved there 2 years ago) and not all of them are able to go. First bc we gave the date to late I guess. He's in the military and was trying to get a leave for a long time, thank God he got new Comander (Boss) and he approved 10 days for November... We found out about this in July and you imagine we are running in circles trying to get everything lol and the money. TTYL!

Hola Sheila! When I started planning my wedding in PR i was thinking the same as you. I wanted to have the ceremony n reception close.. I didnt wanted to deal with the people. I can help you with few great places, depending on your budget of course!!! FI and I loved a place in Quebradillas, the place is called "Hotel Guajataca" you can have the ceremony outdoors right next to the beach and a beautiful mountain on the back, its so beautiful and then, the reception can be in one of their "Salones" with beach view. So cute. Their prices are really low it was like less than $2,000 they include chairs and tables, you can go to their website hotelelguajataca.com send them an email and they'll reply pretty fast. If your budget is about $10k you can look at Hotel Conquistador.... Let me know what you're looking for talking about price ranges ok so I can help you more! Have a good day!

Hello ladies! I guess better late than NEVER :) I am Puerto Rican and my FH is half Nicaraguense and Salvadorean. We met online many years ago, and have been together 4 years now. We have 3 kids (Mikel, my son from previous relationship is half dominican, Adrian, his son from previous relationship, his mother is PR too, and OUR daughter, Mikaela..) Our wedding is being held her in Virgina where we live. We really would love to go to PR for our honeymoon but from what Ive researched it can get expensive and they dont really have any all-inclusive resorts.
