Me, me, me! :-) I was born here in the States, but my parents are both Dominican. My FI is a gringo, but he's really into the latino culture. He's always telling me how I'm his hot Dominicana. ;-D We're getting married New Year's Day 2010. I'm so glad I found this board!!!

Hey Ladies,I am actually not Dominican but my FI is. I wanted to reach out and see if there were any aspects of your weddings that you are having/doing because of your Dominican background.Hope your planning is going well!

Welcome KFL!  For our wedding FH and I will be incorporating the arras (13 coins) during the ceremony (to represent supporting one another), and we may do the lasso as well, we haven't decided.  It's nice because those traditions are also really similar to Filipino traditions, and that's what my fiance is :)  We'll also be having some merengue and bachata at the reception.

Thanks so much for the info! Do you know where I could find more information about the 13 coins - it sounds amazing.

Here's just a brief description of it off this website:"Another tradition is to have a child (usually a boy) carry the "arras" or coins on a silver tray. The boy would have 13 coins (they are usually 10 cents coins) that at some point during the ceremony will be passed to the priest. The priest will pass them to the groom and he in turn will pass them to the bride. This exchange signifies that the couple pledges to provide for each other and that material goods are to be shared equally. The whole thing is very symbolic and is quite romantic. "http://www.colonialzone-dr.com/important_stuff-traditions.htmlMy fiance and I are doing it a little differently; we're going to pass them to eachother as opposed to just him to me, because we support eachother, not just him supporting me.  :)Here are some examples of what you can use; there are so many cute options!http://www.wedding-coins.com/
