Re: Wedding planning book

  • I wouldnt get her a planner unless you are sure you know what kind of wedding she wants. Planning books are all so different and focus on different things, she should pick one out for herself if she wants to use one. A friend got me this thing called "the bride and groom challenge" that's a fun little quiz thing, and also wedding mad-libs, and put that in a cute bag with a wedding magazine. I liked it a lot, it was a fun gift. I believe the stuff she got came from barnes & noble, but they probably have things like that at every book store.
  • I agree about avoiding the wedding planner.  Most brides find it easier to make up a binder with their own dividers. Wedding mags make a great little gift.  If you wanted something more substantial, maybe a gift card to a local restaurant or movie theatre.  Especially if they're paying for their own wedding, those little extras like romantic nights out really fall by the wayside while you're saving.
  • I never use the planner I was given as a gift. It just wasn't practicle especially since so much is done online now. I got a ring dish as a gift and I think it's one of my favorite engagement gifts and I actually use it. It's where I leave my ring when I take it off (to sleep, shower, etc). This isn't the exact one but close.
  • I have heard good reviews about Wedding Planning for Dummies and have given it as a gift a couple of times. It's not the prettiest or glossiest, but it has super helpful info (I am told) and is written by one of the top NYC wedding planners. I gave it to my sister when she got engaged, and am taking it back now that I am engaged!!
  • I went to Borders bookstore and got these cute little photo albums! They have traditional looking ones and more colorful graphic ones too! I like the one with the vegas wedding chapel on the front, or the retro pinup chicks.
