Just Engaged and Proposals

Do you like your square/flat shank ring?

FI proposed last month with a cute right-hand ring so I could pick out my official E-ring. I've decided to get my design custom made by the jeweler, but I don't know if I should request a square/flat shank. I've never worn one and don't know what they feel like. If you have one, do you swear by it? Or does it feel strange?

(Sorry if this is a common question, I searched the boards first and couldn't find it.)

  • I love mine! My ring hardly ever spins and is always diamond up. And yes, PP is correct-the inside of the band around your finger is round.  It's just the outside that's flat.

  • I have a custom-made euro shank ring and it's great. It doesn't turn or spin and is very comfortable - it's rounded inside and flat on my hand. I personally also think that the shape of the ring is very unique - a bit more so than regular round rings.

  • Here's a picture of the euro shank on mine:

  • If you look at Mark Schneider Designs, his are all the flat shank lookin thing. Mine is from his collection and I love it. It stays put and doesn't move around. You really can't feel a difference between the two.
  • I guess that's what mine is. Like PP said it doesn't spin very much (it does a little because of how thin my fingers are, but until I put Snuggies on my other ring they spun a lot more).
