Just Engaged and Proposals

Looking for some advice...

Just a new soon-to-be bride looking for some advice about the upcoming wedding. My FI and I have been engaged about 3 months (I'm 20 and he is 21) and were planning to get married in 2 years (July or August 2014). I'm still going to school and will be graduating in April 2014 so I know I'll be busy with planning and school for the next while! We have a few things decided but haven't made anything official yet. We have a general budget, the number of guests and where the ceremony will be in mind. We were hoping to get the venues finalized by the end of this year and see where things for from there.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated  Laughing

Enjoy it! Every minute. Try not to stress about things because they will cause you to turn into a bridezilla. Also, if your mom is like mine and many others, she will try to control your wedding and make it all about money. Don't let her! Look online for ideas, make decisions, phone calls, THEN let her in on what is going on.

Have fun with your planning and enjoy each other.

  • Make sure you stay glued to your budget. Its not worth putting yourself  in debt for one day and then being stressed out for years. You want to be able to enjoy your big day, but you want to be able to enjoy the ones after too. Also do your best to ignore the stupid things people say. Just be prepared, its going to happen. Sometimes they are said out of love, and sometimes out of jealousy, but people don't always realize that they are saying things that hurt or stress you.

  • You can't please everybody so just enjoy your engagement and happy planning!
  • Few pointers that everyone told me but that i WISH i listened to:

EVERYONE will have something to say... advice (however unwelcome), comments, opinions, orders and even hurtful criticism. As long as you have a good idea about what you both want and what are the minimum standards/ traditions you need to follow, my advice is
    - nod politely and thank them for their suggestion
    - take anything useful they have said but dont confuse yourself
    - do what makes you both happy in the end and odnt try to please anyone

When it is all said and done... you dont want to look back and regret anything, and you dont want to with you had done it differently (red roses instead of white, classical music instead of jazz, bla bla bla)... you will NEVER have another chance to re live your moment.

It is your moment so enjoy it, and the process of planning is heaps of fun too!
