When to book?

I've been meeting with DJs and getting quotes from limo companys but I'm wondering how far out did everyone book their limo and dj? The deposits are kinda heavy right now, do I have time if my wedding is a year out?

we dont need a limo (ceremony and reception at same place), and we booked our dj in january 2009 for our july 2010 wedding. but that's pretty much just because i wanted to make sure we had john from the dj crew do our wedding :)

You have some time. I'd book the DJ before the limo though. We booked our DJ last month (so ... about a year away from the wedding, hehe) and haven't even thought about transportation yet.

We booked the DJ Crew 7 months before our wedding & they still had at least 3 spaces open.  The limo we booked probably about 4 months ahead.  Pretty much everywhere I called for both vendors still had openings left at those points.  I would just take your time & make sure you're happy with the vendors you choose.  They sometimes make you feel like you have to rush to make a decision or they'll be gone, but in my experience it hasn't been like that.  I suppose it depends on the time of the year the wedding will be though.

we booked the DJ crew one year before our june wedding.  we booked all occassions limo about 9 months before.  also depends on the timing of your wedding, if you're getting married during wedding season (may-october) i wouldn't wait much longer than 9 month for the dj and 6 months for the limo. it also depends on the popularity/demand for the vendor.  i know all occassion limo books up quick bc they offer a 50% off coupon and their fleet isn't super huge, so if go with them, i wouldn't wait much past 9 months out and even then you may not be able to get the vehicle you want. HTH!

From looking at your bio, are you getting married on Labor Day weekend?  If so, that is a pretty popular weekend for weddings so the sooner you book the better off you may be.  If putting down a deposit is holding you back, you may not need to put that much down.  (I didn't have to put anything down for my limo).  Also, that far out some vendors may be willing to work with you if you agree to put a small deposit now and then say some more down in a few months.

We booked DJ about 7-8 months out I think.  Things were starting to get booked up about then for September... but that's a popular wedding month.  We just booked our shuttles and party bus last week... and we're only one month out.  I think it helped us get some deals! :)  But I wasn't too concerned about what I was riding in.

I have a friend who is going to be the DJ and I just booked all occasions this week for the limo....I believe they have 5 limo buses and 3 were already booked for my 7/10/10 wedding. I imagine it's easier to book a normal limo but if you want a limo bus, I would consider booking it now. All Occasions didn't require a deposit, just my credit card number.

One additional point is to try and book before  end of 2009 because price rates for some vendors will go  up and into effect end of 2009/beginning 2010.  If you know what you want and who you want – go ahead and book them!

We booked out limo about 5 months prior to the wedding; however, we had a heck of a time trying to find a company who still had anything available!  I really wanted a limo bus but ended up having to go with a regular limo (which really wasn't that bad) because apparently I had waited to long.  I would book as far in advance as possible because you never know what will happen.  Also, as pp states, book before the end of 2009 and you may save yourself some money!
