Ring Insurance

Hi guys!!!

I have been engaged for almost a month now and my Fiance has brought up the idea of adding our engagement ring onto home owners insurance.  We do not currently own a house but my father is willing to put it on his policy.  There are not many approved appraisal places around our area and the one decent one I seem to have found said they would have to keep my ring for a week.  That sounded long to me but I have no clue!!!!

Does 1 week sound like a long time for an appraisal???

and also,

Does anyone else have additional insurance on their ringand have an opinion on the subject? Is it pointless or definitely needed??

oh and on a side note we do have the full waranty that Kay Jewelers offers with rings but that is it.
