So my fiance and I have been engaged since April this year, and we went to go pick out my ring together. We both are not so into the whole diamond thing, the mark ups tick me off, and we're too young and poor to afford a certified cruelty free or canadian diamond. So we opted for my birthstone (peridot) in a very modern yellow gold setting. It was a 6.9 mm princess cut.
Fast forward two and a half months. I broke it. Clean chipped a corner of the peridot off. Didn't find out untill AFTER the fact that peridot only hits a 7.0 on the mohs, and that they are not suggested to be worn every day.
Whoops.
So I'm devestated and pee'd off and trying desperatly to find a jewler who will do something, which they wont, or fixing it or replacing the stone with something else would cost more than what we payed for the whole thing.
So my fiance suggested starting over and going a completley different route. He really likes moissanite, and wanted to get me a moissanite ring (which judging from the depleation of funds in one of our checking accounts I think he may have already done).
He is so sweet and awesome, and I am sure I will love it but here is my question.
We aren't even trying to salvage my current Ering. I've already showed my friends and family my peridot, and it feels a little weird, 2 and 1/2 months later getting a completley different ring. Should I just go with it and enjoy whatever he gets me?
How do I explain this? Do I have to?
Or is it better to just keep trying to find someone to fix my peridot? My only quam is, if I broke it in 2 and 1/2 months what's another few years, or a LIFEtime going to do to the stone?
Help.
