Is a Steel Drum weird?

So my parents REALLY want a steel drum to play during cocktail hour...would that be weird?  I guess they went to a really fancy wedding and there was someone playing one & they thought it was very nice.  I'm indifferent and my fiance is against it b/c he things it's too reggae'ish.  Anyone having someone play an instrument during their cocktail hour?

    We aren't having anyone do live music but I was at a wedding where they had an Irish band for cocktail hour which was very nice and some of the nicer restaurants in Southern Florida will have a steel drum person playing outside.  I think it can be nice if it is done right!

    I was at a wedding where the reception music was a steel drum band and it.was.awesome.

    i LOVE steel drum bands. i say DO IT!!! my SIL is getting married next summer and they are thinking about getting one for cocktail hour too.

    would I call it "fancy" probably not, but live music is always a great touch, and steel drums can be a "fun" addition

    I agree it would be a fun and memorable touch for the cocktail hour. I've attended wedding cocktail hours where they had live piano or guitar music. Go for it!
