Just Engaged and Proposals

The PERFECT Ring

My boyfriend and I have been looking for rings on and off for about 8 months now (long story). Yesterday we were on 5th Ave in New York and I found the most perfect ring. It was very much my style and it was beautifully made.

Of course when we looked at the price tag we pretty much bolted out of there. We spent the rest of the day walking through the diamond district looking for something, anything, that resembed the ring I saw. Nothing quite lived up to the ring.

We're both students and we don't have a lot of money to spend. We're also probably going to have a long engagement because we want to wait until we both have an income before getting married. But this ring was so nice I felt like I would never have to upgrade or anything like that.

In the broad scheme of things, the ring doesn't matter at all. But when I put that ring on, the moment was so romantic and perfect.

Soooo...my mother is a professional gemologist and is donating a 1 carat stone for our engagement which is so generous, I can barely think about it without crying.

My bf is going to talk to his parents (who do not have money issues, to say the least) and see if they'll lend him the money for the ring. If they think it's too much, we'll figure something else out.

So we're getting a stone for free which should cut the price tag in half. After that, it's still out of our price range but we're going to see what we can do. There's also the possibility of an interest-free payment plan which would be fantastic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Bridezilla. The man could propose to me with a plastic ring and I would be the happiest woman in the world. Our goal, though, was to find a ring I would never have to upgrade...and we found it.

What do you girls think? Am I being too selfish by focusing so much on this single ring? Should I just let it drop? Am I a Bridezilla already?!
