Here is our story:
B made reservations at Michelle Bernstein’s restaurant on Palm Beach Island for Saturday night. I had been wanting to go there, so I was surprised and excited when he told me he had already made the reservation. Before leaving for dinner, B asked me if I would like to go to the beach after because there was a full moon and we might be able to see some Loggerhead sea turtles (they come up this time of year to lay their eggs). I thought it was a great idea.
The restaurant is in a beautiful beach hotel. There was a wedding at the hotel that day and we arrived right when the guests were having cocktail hour. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink before going to our table. There was an acoustic guitarist playing music for the cocktail hour and we were able to enjoy the romantic music he was playing.
The food at the restaurant was simply amazing. We started with a tuna tartar which was simple but very flavorful. B had the filet au poivre and I had short ribs. Both dishes were exceptional (which was a huge relief to B seeing as how he was nervous that I would be disappointed in the food).
When we left the restaurant, we decided to take a drive up Palm Beach Island to look at all the amazing houses (little did I know this was a stalling attempt on B’s part because the moon was not yet up).
When we got to the beach, we laid out our blanket and B opened a bottle of wine he had brought. We sat for a little while enjoying the full moon and then went for a short stroll. When we got back to our blanket, we stood looking at the moon. B looked at me very lovingly while holding my hand and said there was no place he’d rather be and that he loved our life together. Then he said, “I don’t ever want that to change, so I have a question to ask you.” He got down on one knee and I burst into tears. He said, “Will you marry me?” as a few tears slid down his cheeks. As he put the ring in my hand, I fell to my knees hugging him and crying. After several minutes, I said, “Yes, yes, yes. Of course,” and kissed him. After I had regained my composure and could form a complete sentence, I realized I had the ring still in my hand and said I was surprised I hadn’t dropped it in the sand! B then put the ring on my finger.
We got up, and B said, “I don’t know what I would have done with this if you hadn’t of said yes,” and pulled out a bottle of Prosecco that he had on ice in his backpack! I was so surprised and touched because he knew I would want to have some sparkling wine after such an exciting moment!
While we were sipping on our Prosecco, I noticed something moving further north of us on the beach. I realized it was a Loggerhead, so we ran over to where it was. She was leaving the beach to go back into the water; it was a pretty amazing site. When she was gone, we went back to our blanket to enjoy the rest of our Prosecco.
We were getting ready to get up to pack our things and leave the beach when a second Loggerhead came up out of the water about 20 feet right in front of us! She started doing her thing (moving the sand around to make her nest) and started laying her eggs right in front of us! It was pretty amazing.
It was a perfect night and I couldn’t have dreamed of such a romantic proposal. Even though I kind of thought it was coming, I was still surprised. I had worried that I wouldn't have any reaction because I expected it, but I was overcome with emotion. I am so excited to marry the man of my dreams!
