CZ for a wedding ring?

Re: CZ for a wedding ring?

  • GL with your planning.
I second the local board, and your "month" board. That's where I met some incredibly helpful and awesome ladies.

[QUOTE]I will say that with emeralds and rubies, I would go with lab created ones since they are very porous naturally. Sapphires are the 2nd hardest stone. When we were shopping for rings the jeweler we went with has a line of diamonds that are flawed but they made flaws invisable to the naked eye. You can get a bigger stone for less.

Sapphires and Rubies are both corundum and that means they are the same thing. Ruby is just a red corundum, and sapphire is all the other colors available.

[QUOTE]yes and most saphires today have the two words "lab created" attached to the front.... so what is the difference? lab created or not it is still a clear stone in the end.... white gold isn't really gold but thats what we tell everyone.... you just helped me make my decision... I'll go with cz and be an honest up front person instead of an insignificant shunned liar... thanks!

Natural Sapphires can be had, even sapphires without treatment for a good price if you know where to look. I find this statement about lab creation a little offensive since I'm wearing a natural untreated purple sapphire that we spent a lot of research in finding to assure it was ethically sourced. If cost is an issue and you'd like a white stone that will last longer than CZ a white sapphire or moissenite can be had for less than a diamond. These are also often easier to find with ethical sourcing than a diamond. Note that ethical diamonds can be found and for a good price as well but you'll have to do some looking.

Try here.  If you are not familiar with the area you can ask lots of questions about venues and budget there.  They will be able to give you some ideas.  Also look for posts titles "Vendor reviews".  Those are brides who recently got married and have rated their vendors.

You can see real sapphires many untreated at the following sites. They come ina  variety of colors. A natural sapphire that is eye clean can come  in some of the most beautiful colors immaginable. The sky is the limit to their variety.

Do you have any nearby towns that will be more open to what you want? If you go in and they tell you they will only sell you a diamond, threaten to take your business elsewhere; that will get their act in shape. If they don't respond in a way that addresses your wants, then take your business elsewhere.

  • Here's my suggestion, do whatever your budget allows and whatever makes you and your Fiance happy.  But here's an alternative, try going to places for your rings that aren't big name, expensive stores (Tiffany, Kays, Jared, etc.).  My Fiance got mine at JCPenney and he made payments on it in order to get it paid off and my ring is gorgeous.  Maybe try that option?

  • Op, I really hope that you get what makes you happy.  It seems like all of your follow-up posts reflect on what other people say and what other people think.  Will you be happy with your Princess Kate ring as your engagement ring?  Will you be happy with a small diamond?  Will you be happy with a large CZ?  Who the heck cares what anyone else looking at your finger thinks.

My husband picked out a ring for me that I love.  Is it what I thought I would have originally, no, but he chose it and the fact that he gave it to me and asked me to marry him with it means I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.  If he asked me to marry him with a twist tie fashioned into a ring I would treasure it forever.

Forget about the ring haters out there, if they are so concerned with your ring they have bigger issues. . . . their opinions DO NOT matter!
  • I actually did what the posters above said and went out o town. I wanted to support our local jewelers but the prices weere outrageous! he wants $900 for a plain white gold band! I went to Dunkin's Diamonds an hour north and they had a wide variety of rings with TONS of sparkle! The man there was so nice friendly and patient that I was totally comfortable and he didn't bring out one piece of jewelry above my budget!

The rings he brought out had several smaller diamonds in the center in a circle instead of one big diamond and smaller stones down the band and two on the weddikng band. it looked gorgeous and made my day! No where else has had anything in our budget but he pulled it off and I love evry one of them so when FI picks it out I will be suprised and totally happy!

  • Get whatever you want. Mine is silver and aquamarine and I think it's rad.
"I wish yo azz all tha dopest up in yo' marriages"
  • I considered aquamarine because its FI birthstone. But I like the diamonds I found. Dunkin's were the only ones with the sparkle and glitz. I didn't want to go out of town to buy my ring but our jeweler just had nothing that didn't look like it had come from a cracker jack box for our budget.
  • It's your ring, do what you like! I personally hate diamonds, because of the huge blood diamond industry, but CZs are ok and look pretty much the same.

<div>One of my best friends has a sapphire engagement ring and it's beautiful. Whatever jelewer you spoke to was full of crap. Engagement rings can be whatever you want them to be. Not everyone loves or wants diamonds and an engagement ring is a reflection of your and/or your husband's tastes in jewelry. Get whatever makes you happy and quit caring what everyone thinks. </div>

  • I think its rude for a person to inspect and question the ring you have chosen to wear on your finger and the cost, size, type, etc is no ones business! If YOU are happy with it then own it, love it, and wear it like a diva! Don't let others be the reason why you choose or do not choose the ring you love!
    Best Wishes!

It sounds like a real emerald. Emeralds have natural inclusions and can take on an almost soapy, seafoam color. The nicest natural emeralds are deep green, though.

I have an emerald engagement ring and I absolutely adore it. My sister's engagement ring is a pink sapphire.

    Here's what they look like:

  • Another option is a white sapphire. It's clear like a diamond but it's nicer than CZ and as someone also previously stated sapphires is much more stronger and more durable.
  • CZs are not good for a long term ring that you will wear every day.  They are porous, and absorb hand lotion and oils and become cloudy.
If you must have an engagement ring, choose amythyst.  It is string and durable and very inexpensive.  You can have it mounted in a traditional setting, and have it replaced with a diamond at a later date - or not.. Many brides don't get engagement rings.
My own wedding ring is a simple, plain gold band.  I have worn it every day for 37 years.  At this point, I have enough diamonds to choke a horse.  (Inherited some, DH bought other).

  • This thread is from 2012. I imagine she picked her ring by now.
Maybe not. I mean, you never know!
  • It's an old thread, for sure, but I think the advice is still helpful. I'm not a fan of CZ anyway, but now I know that the cloudy effect comes from it being porous. I used to buy cheap rings for fun that were CZ. Now knowing that lotion and such causes the cloudy appearance, I will only buy CZ if it's for earrings or maybe necklaces. This old thread was still useful for me, so thanks CMGragain.

If that's what your jewelers are pushing, I'd be looking for other jewelry stores!  There are tons of erings with colored stones.  Some as the main.  Some as an accent.  Your jeweler is pushing for that because he wants to sell a diamond not an emerald.  Bigger pay day for him.

Secondly, I see nothing wrong with a CZ.  I know friends that have them and honestly I can't tell.  Unless I physically take their ring off and touch the stone.  And quite honestly I like their CZ rings a lot better than some people I know who have spent in excess of $5000 on a ring.

Your engagement ring should be about your guys life together.  Whatever you two want.  Mine is a 2 1/2 carat princess cut on a black gold twisty band with diamonds on the sides and a matching black gold twisty wedding band with diamonds.  I chose what I wanted.  Who cares what anyone else thinks.  And honestly, I got a "bigger" ring than if I would have went with a traditional diamond.
