  • FI and I got engaged on Nov 1,2009 and are getting married Nov 1 or 3, 2011 so our engagement will be two years exactly.
  • Ours will be about 20 months..

  • Wow, I had no idea how short my engagement was in comparison! Are most people engaged longer than a year?  I got a couple strange looks when I said I wanted to get married within 8 months, but didn't realize that engagements were typically so long.

  • My fiance and I got engaged June 1st 2010 and we'll be married October 27th 2010, so not even 5 months. Don't worry; your's isn't too short.
  • i think there are three types of engagements:

    1.  you get engaged, but have a goal to reach before the wedding (finishing school, buying a house, etc) so obviously you just have a longer engagement...

    2.  you have a specific wedding date in mind.  for instance, say you always dreamt of getting married in september.  but then you end up getting engaged in july.  you probably wouldn't want to try to plan a wedding in 2 months, so you wait a year and 2 months.

    3.  you have an engagement time period in mind.  i think most people can plan a decent wedding in 6-8 months, so some people might just take whatever day they get engaged and pick a date 6-8 months out.  others might want to have a year+ engagement just because and pick accordingly.

  • we got engaged march 10 2010 and are getting married sept 25 2010.....i would have prefered a longer engagment but it just works better this way with the immigration process.
  • we got engaged on october 8th 2009 and are getting married in September 17th 2010
  • Ours will be 20 months long.
  • our "official" engagement will be super short.  everyone knows we're getting married but i haven't got a ring on my finger yet.  we're getting married oct/nov 2010 so about 4 months away.

we would get married tomorrow if we could put there is some paperwork we need to wait for.
  • 5 months

Our engagement will be a mind-bendingly long 26 months.  And I have no regrets about its length.
  • Ours is about two years.  We both graduate college this year so we wanted a year after that to get settled with our new jobs.  Also, planning after college will be much easier :)

I'm guessing you got strange looks because people might assume you're preggers and want to have the wedding before the baby. LOL

I'm just saying.....Its the world we live in now babe. Laughing

  • Ugh 27 months... FI is finishing school and I am a full-time volunteer so we need to finish those and get paying jobs before we can get married.  It's frustrating but awesome at the same time because I have so much time to plan so hopefully I won't stress too much :)
  • We got engaged the first weekend in June this year, and are aiming for the first weekend in November for the wedding, which will be 5 months. If you're not planning some big, elaborate thing, I don't think it's a big deal. If money and his work schedule weren't an issue, it would have been 5 weeks, not 5 months. =)

Maybe they thought you might be prego since you wanted to get married within 8 months? lol  Seriously, my best friend had a 7 month engagement, and she said it was plenty enough time for her to plan everything.
  • Engaged May 2010 and we've planned the wedding for October 2011.
So just about a year and a half.
    And I can't wait!!!!

  • I wanted to get married in Sep of 2010, but he didn't get around to proposing until the End of May, so everything in our area was already booked, so instead we're getting married May 2010, it'll be almost exactaly a year to the day.

  • I got engaged on May 15th of this year and our wedding is July 16th of next year so a year and 2 months. I wanted a summer wedding and this summer was obviously too close to plan anything!

  • We got engaged December 2008 and had scheduled our wedding for September 2009. Halfway through our planning our venue closed so we ended up moving the wedding to April 2010. So we were engaged for just under 1.5 years.

  • Ours will be a 18 month engagement....engaged 03-03-10 and our wedding date is 09-10-11.

  • I'm in the same boat.  We have been "engaged" for about a year and a half, we are getting married in April 2011, but no ring yet.  So the answer to that question is complicated.  It's eather two years, or a couple of months :D

But, who cares? you're engaged, you're planning your wedding, and you'll be married and happy, it doesn't matter how long you've been engaged (unless there was something you wanted to finish before the wedding)
