Just Engaged and Proposals

Newly engaged and just started planning, Dream Venue or Dream Date?

Hi knot-ties! So this is my first posting on here. I'm a forum/board amateur lol.

I just got engaged this past July. :) My fiance and I have been together for four years. On our 4th anniversary, he proposed on the balcony of our room at the Grand Floridan Hotel with the view of the beautiful lake and Cinderella's castle. I dreamed that one day he would propose to me in front of Cinderella's castle, I never told him that, and it was so amazing that it happened. :) He proposed with his grandfather's diamond ring, which we then used the vintage, rose cut/old miner diamond for a custom designed ring. It's so beautiful and I love the story we can pass on to our future children.

So it's September and we just started our search on venues. We went to Disney last week, I've been gravitating towards the "Disney Fairy Tale Wedding." It seems fitting to me since we were engaged here. But I'm also open to other venues, I just wanted to us to check out Disney first. Well, needless to say my inner child and myself fell in love with the idea of a wedding at Disney World. So much so, that I during lunch after the consult I started crying realizing that I loved the vision I saw and how emotionally attached I was to Disney World. My favorite bonding moments with my family were at Disney World.

Well, the date that we want is 11-11-11 (The reason for the 11-11-11 date is because I always remind my fiance at 11:11 on the clock we gotta make wishes and for us to have and 11-11 date seems like both our wishes came true..) and it seems like the ceremony location and reception location we really want is not available on that day. We would have to settle for another location on the disney property (not that we didn't love the other location we set up, it just wasn't our top choice). On the other hand, in order to have the dream wedding setup we could plan on a different date.

So basically, We would have to give up our dream wedding locations to have our dream date(11-11-11)  or get our ideal wedding locations and give up the 11-11-11 date.

Now, we our still open to checking out other venues, but I feel like after our visit there I had that "bride gut feeling" that says: "this is it, this is the place, I don't want to look anywhere else." But I guess I do want to keep an open mind, so I haven't put my foot down just yet..

I don't know what to do. :'(

I feel like If I'm willing to give up the date for the ideal spot at Disney, I might be afraid I'll regret not keeping the 11-11-11 date

or if I keep the 11-11-11 date, but settle on the 2nd best Disney location, then I might regret I that I didn't pick the location over the date

Then, there's the idea of the just keeping the 11-11-11 date and find a venue outside of Disney...

LOL sorry for my ramble! What are your thoughts?

I think I'm putting waaaaaay too much thought in to a date and venue! Help!

  • I say go for the dream venue. Your date will be special no matter what and personally I'm not a fan of dates like 11-11-11 or 09-10-11 or whatever. I mean I suppose they are fine if they work for everything else but you could do something else to incorporate the 11:11 thing, like time your ceremony to end at 11:11 because then your wish finally came true but you still get the venue you want.

Basically I feel like you will regret missing out on the venue over missing out on the date.

  • Thank you for your insight bethsmiles! After re-reading my post, I realize that I have more feelings toward the venue than I do the date! Ultimately, I'm feeling like we will always look back on the wedding ceremony not the special date. Besides, this will mean we can get married earlier than Novemeber!

I definitely think your dream venue is something you will notice during your wedding way more than the actual date.  I also think your wedding won't be less special to you because it doesn't take place on a specific date, but using a different venue could definitely have that effect on you.

  • I agree with pp about going with the venue.  I have a feeling the 11/11 date will be super popular, so it might be harder to get other vendors too (like your photographer and such).  No matter what date you get married on it will be special.  Good luck planning!

  • I agree also with the venue.  Venue MAKES your wedding, the date doesn't.  The date will always be special no matter what.
  • It's odd that you post this because the 11:11 thing is something that we do as well! I would say go for the venue and then if possible maybe start the wedding at 11:11? I know 11:11am is early for a ceremony, or make a note of 11:11pm at your reception.. if you have a DJ maybe he could say something about 11:11.. I don't know, but you could try to incorporate that into the reception. I say do the dream venue, as it is 11:11 is the time you make a wish, not a date Wink (although I deff understand where you're coming from here)

People and you will notice the dream venue.  No one will notice the date. Go for the venue.

    This.

Also, I'd talk to your families to make sure that either the location or date are possible before getting too sold on either idea.
  • Thank you everyone! You're all very kind to help me decide.  :) Originally, I was leaning toward choosing the venue, and after reading everyone's response really helps put it all in perspective. (^_^)

palmettogirl924 - that's awesome to know someone else does the 11:11pm wish. I love noticing the clock at that moment. i think we will definitely incorporate 11:11pm if its during our reception. :)

heyimbren - Thanks for pointing that out. We actually did talk to our families prior to our appointment with Disney about the date and the venues. They were happy with our possible choices. I have been trying to be mindful with situations like that because I don't want to be sold on anything and then get disappointed.

I agree with Bethsmiles on this one. I don't really like those "trendy" dates so I would go with the venue. I am will to change the date I want to have me wedding in the place that I want which is why I say choose the venue.
  • Go for the dream venue
  • Go for the venue and like previous posters said maybe at 11:11 you could have the venue do something special with the wish like play Disney's famous "a dream is a wish" and you and your H could dance to that . 11 would proabably be when your reception is wrapping up so it could be your last dance or "private dance"--that is becoming more popular before your send off.

  • I just got married in August, and I still can't get enough of this wedding stuff, so I made a blog for brides to learn my dos and don'ts and my advise! Check it out!
