BM dresses

I was wondering when you girls have your bridesmaids get measred for their dress and ordered. i went to davids bridal on monday and they said that it was up to me and kinda gave me a timeline. Our wedding is July 24, 2010. I picked oct. 31 for it all to be down. that way they don't have to worry about it in nov. and dec. with the holidays. And david's bridal said that january starts there busy time. Well now i have a girl saying she feels that 9 months out is to early for her to order her dress cause what if she gains weight. But when i was in my cousins wedding june of 2008 i had to order my dress july of 2007 cause i had to actually call and have it up an size cause i got pregnant. According to things i have read and stuff 9 moths seems to be when to do it. I was just wondering when other brides had it done. Thanks!!!

That is early to order dresses. I was in a early August wedding and I ordered my dress at the beginning of Feb from David's Bridal and that was fine. It came in in May. I was going away for the summer that's why I needed it early.I think you would be fine ordering it in January honestly. What did David's Bridal say is the latest you could have them order it?

My girls are getting their dresses from DB as well and I gave them until Nov. 2009 for my May 2010 wedding. I was told by DB that they have no control over dicountinued dresses or if a dress is out of stock. She told me the best thing to do is once I have the dress picked for my BP is to have them order it. That way no one is left without a dress if for some reason that particular dress gets discontinued. It may be a little early, but its your wedding and if you feel more comfortable having your girls get their dress now, then they should understand that. Maybe explain to them how important it is that they all have their dress early and maybe no get it altered until closer to the wedding...most likely they will all have to get alterations!

I was in a wedding in August where we got the BM dresses at DB. I think most of us ordered ours in April/May. They came in in like 4 weeks. I think you will be fine.

I ordered my girls' dresses in November for our April wedding. We got separates from David's Bridal and IIRC, they only took something like 3 weeks to come in (not the 4-6 weeks they told us). If you waited until January or even February, I don't think it would be a problem. Considering when your wedding is, October seems a bit early. If DB says their 'busy season' starts in January, I'd take that to mean it would be less busy than if you ordered in, say, March (which would be pushing it, IMO).If one of your BMs is concerned about gaining weight, perhaps it would be best if she straight-up ordered a larger size than she measures to be. You can always alter a size or two down, but it's difficult, if not impossible, to alter a size up.BTW, don't let your girls get roped into having alterations done at David's, cuz it can be a HUGE ripoff. There are seamstresses and other shops who will alter dresses not purchased from them (the independents).

We just ordered dresses online in July for a december wedding and we will be getting them in by the First week of November so still plenty of time. I would hold off until Jan or Feb. to order -especially since Davids does quick orders than most.

Oh yeah and I wanted to add that DB screwed up one girl's order and gave her the wrong dress TWICE! (once the right color, wrong style, then the next time she got the right dress in the wrong color haha) and she still got her dress a month before the wedding. And they gave her $20 off because they charged her the price for the first dress which was less expensive. :)
