So...there's a place that is a frozen yogurt buffet kind of thing down here. We went there on our first official date. We would always sit on the curb together because it was summer and all the outdoor seating was taken. Before we were dating, I sat there saying that I was going to marry a guy on a tropical island who has no family (so that they wouldn't mind that we didn't have a wedding here). He sat there wishing on a star that I'd agree to date him.
We were actually about 30 minutes away eating dinner after having dropped my kids with their Dad and he said we had to get to Frozen Yo before it closed. I thoguht he just had a craving for it so he drives like a mad man trying to get there. We get there at 927p, thinking that it closes at 930.
We hop out of the car and run in. We get our stuff, walk outside and he asks if we can sit on the curb like we used to. I have a fractured tailbone and had just sat down and got comfy when I realized that I didn't have the pill I needed to be able to eat (I'm lactose intolerant). He said "I'll go get it for you". So he walks over to the car, comes back with my purse in hand and hands it to me. I looked inside and there was a wrapped present.
I thought for sure he had gotten me something with an owl on it because I love owls. So, I start opening the present and when I open it, there's the ring. He was down on one knee and asked if i would marry him. My answer "Of course I will!".
To make it better, my Mom had told me for weeks that I was making the wrong decision with who I was dating, and here I had this awesome guy just waiting for me. So our running joke was that I make bad decisions and should consult her more oftens.
She happened to be on a plane (or should have been, it was cancelled), so I took a picture of my hand and ring, and texted it to her and said "Should I say yes?" She didn't get it right away, so I called. I said "So, should I? You know I make bad decisions..." She gets her Mom tone of voice on and says "Don't tell me you didn't give him an answer yet!" I laughed and told her I had given him an answer. Then I said that since I couldn't get ahold of her to help with the decision, I had to tell him no. She told me she would kill me if I said no..haha. Unbeknownst to me, he had asked her and my stepdad's permission when they were in from Missouri in August.
